NBA: Detroit Pistons at San Antonio Spurs - Under 174.5 -110
Game Date: 6/23/2005
Note: As we enter the final game of the NBA season and the final game of
what has become a great NBA Championship Series, we take note that the
OVER is 5-1 in the previous 6 contests between these 2 elite teams. We
have stated it many times over the course of these games but we will do it
again. The Spurs and Pistons are where they are because of great
individual, and team DEFENSE. That is how they got to this point in the
long NBA season, and we believe that is how the Champion and loser will go
out. These are the top 2 scoring defense teams this year permitting 88 and
89 points per game respectively on average. Ever since Larry Brown made
the comment following Detroit's 0-2 start that his team lacked defensive
intensity, his Pistons have excelled with their physical style of play and
have won the last 3 of 4 games in the process. The fact is, the reason why
all 4 of those game have gone over the total is due to Detroit's style of
play which resulted in tons of turnovers and tons of fast break points. 42
Fast break points in games 3 and 4 alone. Now it is time for Spur Head
Coach Greg Popovich to make his feelings known. He says that the Spurs
must go back to executing basic fundmentals and their taking care of the
ball better. For San Antonio to win the final game they must LIMIT the
Piston's fast break opportunities and one of the ways they plan to do this
is to LIMIT the number of Spur 3 point attempts. In game 6 we saw a
franchise playoff record of 28 attempted 3 pointers!! Change of strategy
tonight! Let's go down low and watch Duncan work his magic. Also, let
Ginobili drive the lane, something that he certainly has had success with.
You can expect to see quite of bit of this from the Spurs and we can
expect pretty much the same style of play by the Pistons as it will be
back to FUNDAMENTALS for both squads....
