NBA: Detroit Pistons at San Antonio Spurs - Spurs -5 -110
Game Date: 6/23/2005
Note: Sometimes it just sucks being a professional handicapper. I would
much rather grab a six pack of Corona, sit in my huge and comfortable
recliner, and scream and hollar at the TV for the Pistons to whip the
Spurs. I have come to admire Detroit for their physical style of play and
their determination to win against heavy odds. But it is time to do the
right thing and put a play on San Antonio tonight. I do not think we will
see a blowout by the Spurs tonight. I do think they will find a way to win
though. The last 4 NBA Finals 7th games have been won by the home team by
margins of 6, 9, 3, and 6. The fact is, when there is a 7th game, that
usually means 2 very closely matched teams and that is what we have this
year. I do think that Popovich's Spurs have learned a lot in this series
and I do think they have a strategy to win this one as well. We are going
to see Duncan and Ginobili quite a bit tonight and the Spurs success with
be on their shoulders. The Pistons finally got that win at San Antonio
after failing on 11 previous attempts but winning twice against the Spurs
on their home court is not an easy task. San Antonio is a perfect 11-0 ATS
at home following a game when they were cast as a favorite. We have said
this before. The Pistons play well when they are at a deficit in a playoff
series and made that 6 of 7 last game out. The Spurs in game 6 did not
play their game and were too focused on the easy way out, attempting a
franchise playoff record of 28 three pointers. We expect a very much
different style of play for the Spurs tonight and a more controlled style
of offense. With Horry off the bench (5 NBA Championship Rings) and more
shots in the paint, San Antonio should be able to pull away in the fourth
quarter. The Pistons rely heavily on their starting 5 and we fully believe
that they will not be as sharp in the late going if the Spurs plan tonight
is successfully emplemented.....
