Todd Fuhrman is as bad as RJ Bell with his shilling for fraud touts. Since he falsely claims to be a "former oddsmaker at Caesar's" (he never set odds there; he was a satellite manager), another one of his narratives is claiming that Vegas oddsmakers somehow have specialized knowledge. With few exceptions, they do not. You don't need to know dick about the teams to wait for the offshores to open and then move on air, and many of these "oddsmakers" are just suits whose job descriptions involve other things that day to day bookmaking.

As a hilarious example of how out of touch some of these guys are, Jay Kornegay is often labelled a "highly respected oddsmaker" and when ESPN asked him which game at the Westgate had gotten the biggest line movement, is answer was the South Carolina/LSU game... that had been moved from South Carolina to Louisiana because of flooding. Another example is the famous time he told RJ Bell that HFA in an MLB 7 game series was worth 12%, and RJ Bell tweated it without realizing how wrong it is. The Westgate is a great book, but calling Jay "an oddsmaker" is a gross miscategorization of his job and knowledge. Same is true for the douche that runs Cantor; he ran his mouth on Twitter earlier this year about the dumb bettors overvaluing Corey Kluber because he had a 4.50 ERA in his first 6 starts. There's a reason Cantor waits for Pinny to open before putting up MLB openers.

There's certainly value in having someone knowledgeable at stats on the CFP committee, but the idea that most of these "Vegas oddsmakers" have any specialized knowledge is just standard Fuhrman bullshit. (Ed Salmons is probably the exception, and possibly one or two others,)

Forgot to mention FCS already uses Sagarin as a tiebreaker -- no reason FBS couldn't use it too, considering Sagarin ratings were a hair better than "Vegas" last I checked, I recall his ratings going 50.3% vs the close or thereabouts.

I pretty much concur with GM the post. The oddsmaker I respect for his golf knowledge is Jeff Sherman. Most of the other talent resides offshore with exceptions.

Changing gears..........In fairness to the guy that ok's your bet behind the counter, the corporate suits don't give him the flexibility to maneuver. They(Sups) sweat their job stability and caution on the side of it. Most of these "sups/managers" get their best education from the sharp players. They'll schmooze you and try to pick your brains. Eventually, they'll cut or boot you. Btw, that's win or lose.

    Groovin,
Your twitter info says you are a "Former Vegas oddsmaker?" Would you mind telling us which casino did you work for?
