He passed away today. Funny, feisty competitor.

Managed my Cubbies for a few years.

Popeyes will be missed.

    Managers loved to have him around. Didn't he have a plate in his head from a beaning he took as a player. Nice guy and I'm sure PMartinez won't be a pall bearer.

    Zim took the shot to the noggin in the days before batting helmets. Just your skull and the horsehide. Really was a prospect before that unfortunate incident.

    He wore that plate his entire life after a serious beaning in the minors...played on the only Brooklyn team to win the WS (1955), was an original Met (1962), and managed the '78 Red Sox.

    I was never a big fan of the lawn dart but may he RIP.
    My thoughts & prayers go out to his family.
