I just want to say thank you to everyone who responded in this thread.

I feel like I have learned a lot and I feel better knowing that this has happened to other people.

I know several pro's that have bank accounts closed by Chase. I would go ahead and assume they are behind everything and just move on. Best to take the advice of opening some credit union accounts for your gambling and keeping everything else separate.

So I got a new bank account and have deposited some checks there with no issues. Then today, this happened

Bank Teller, 30ish, female: Do you know where this check came from?
    Me: Yes, it will clear.
Bank Teller: Is this like a payroll check?
Me: No, I am just being paid for some online work.
Bank Teller: Oh, what kind of online work?
Me, thinking this conversation needs to end right now: Adult Entertainment
Bank Teller: Oh really! My roommate back in college used to do that and I would hold the camera for her. It worked out really well because she was my ex-girlfriend so I got to see her naked a lot plus I didn't have to pay rent for like two years.
Bank Teller #2 50ish, female: Daaaaamn, I am in the wrooooong business. Do you need any more employees?
Bank Teller #1 then finished up with some post banking small talk and I got the hell out of there.

I mean how crazy is this? I was hoping that the adult entertainment line would make the teller uncomfortable and kill all possible questions for when she sees me in the future. That obviously backfired. Now what? Should I continue going to this branch and risk "shop talk" with this teller, or should I try a different branch on my next deposit?

That's what I wanted to do, but I get this note in my sportsbook.ag skin on each withdrawals that gets processed:

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION - We have been notified that when deposited through a ATM machine some banks are unable to accept the checks as they are issued by a Bank outside the United States. We would stress to you that all checks should be deposited to your account manually. Additionally, we would reiterate that you should not indicate the check has any relationship to online gaming.

Wtf is the problem?!? Looks to me as if you've stumbled onto the stone cold nuts for all future transactions. I'd venture to guess that you'd have some Pm's regarding the locale of this honey hole if such an option were available.

Enjoy it, don't burn it out tho.

Lol, last year they were sending a note instructing people to use the atm.

I'm getting a lot of phone calls from my banks these days too, guess I should have stayed out of this country.

I was thinking that it may be a good thing, the problem is, I am now vulnerable to questions that I really can't answer. i.e. What is your website address? How did you find your employees, etc

The teller is just doing her job by asking questions and trying to get a referral to a banker for a possible sale. Just make up a story or just use the ATM.

All of which are easily avoided with simple feigning of embarrassment. You were quick and creative on your feet with the adult industry reasoning to begin with, you'll manage.

I removed this post because I'm not sure specific banking info. should be posted publicly.

Also, FYI, they use multiple processors/banks.

Mikie's story seems like something straight out of the Seinfeld "Menage a trois" episode. Even his reaction to it, where most people think that it's awesome, but Jerry (Mikie) are only thinking about the negatives. Classic stuff.

Mikie, You don't need the heat these minimum wage clerks/tellers can create. Find alternative methods. The best you can do here is break even.

Ask her if she has a new girlfriend and if she's hot that you'll audition/film them and then post it here, after that just go to the next branch down the road... ;)

awesome story, fellas we got a real porn star amongst us!

Citibank allows me to deposit checks from their app it can't be more than 1k however, I believe you can be granted an increase. I am 100% positive that buythehooks comment is correct. $10 an hour tellers are not your AML compliance liaisons

Ron, you think so? What heat can this teller create? The teller can get in a lot of trouble for what she said, and possibly fired should I tell on her. I am starting to agree with Jalo the more I think about this. It is kind of a nut spot. Once word gets around that I am "the porn guy", small talk about what I do for a living will be kept to a minimum/non-existent (minus my new friend of course). And no small talk means, scan the check, give me my receipt, have a nice day. Which is all i really want.

Mikie, I don't know what state you live in, but with all these problems your having only leads me to believe your located somewhere in the Midwest.

These problems don't exist in NY, NJ, PA, MASS, Chicago and Cali. at least that I'm aware of.

    3) Hope your not walking into the bank dressed like a hooligan. Frequent deposits mean where a suit when you go in look sharp.
They will ask less questions this way.

LOL!, Nail on the effing head wraps. I am in Ohio and yes, I could appear hooliganish to the tellers I suppose. I usually wear mesh shorts, but they are clean and black, I also wear a clean nice t-shirt and I am usually shaved, although I wasn't today, lol. That had to be bad.

Wraps, I am taking your advice next time, I don't think I can go straight to the suit, but I will start with a nice clean shave and jelled hair and a collared shirt

Since 9/11 and the Patriot Act handling cash is a pain in the ass. Any financial employee can file a Suspicious Activity Report(SAR). From the lowly teller to the bank president. All anti-money laundering efforts. If you aren't handling big $$ regularly don't sweat it. As OT can attest, since the new regs, casino paper work has gone through the roof. After the government levied some 7 figure fines for non-compliance, they ALL take it more seriously.

I've done about 6 hassle free deposits, then I got Bank Teller #2 today, for the first time:

Bank Teller #2: So did you win money up in Canada?
Me: No, I'm just being paid for some online work.
Bank Teller #2: Oh...that's right...you're that “internet” guy. I remember you, you almost had a new applicant that one day.
Me: Yeah, that's me. Then I wanted to say, “Making 12 year old boys' wet dreams come true since 2006.” But I restrained myself.

I am in the adult entertainment business and Chase closed my account because of that so I would be careful about saying that flippantly as a LARGE portion of the population still has a big problem with it and the banks attitudes are its not worth the grief.

    bkeiller, thanks for sharing.

When I had an account at Chase, I told them that the checks were from online gaming, and my account eventually was closed. I don't know if the checks triggered the account being closed or if it was refinance paperwork that had professional gambler listed as my profession. Anyways the Chase account and my other bank account were closed within days of each other.

Now I am at a new bank, and I just decided that I am not going to breathe any word of gambling to anyone at this bank. So when I was faced with questions that forced a response of saying the nature of the work, I chose adult entertainment to be vague. Now bkeiller tells me that he is actually in the adult entertainment business and that got his account closed.

I really just don't know what to tell anyone at the bank going forward.

I believe that while the gambling and the adult entertainment can both get your accounts closed the reasons are wholly unrelated. Adult entertainment still has a social stigma and the bank is concerned with a PR problem rather than a regulatory or legal issue. I guess there could be a concern about unreported cash etc but B of A actually would not even take our corporate business leading me to believe it is simply a desire to avoid PR problems if it ever became an issue.

There are also numerous companies and vendors around the country where we operate who refuse our business simply based on the social aspects. Gambling and adult entertainment are viewed through a very different prism in mainstream America than out in Vegas.

And I couldn't agree more about the hypocrisy of these banks that they close an individuals small account for merely suspicious offshore activity yet they take hundreds of millions from Russians as Chase did a while back. Its all about the benjamins!!

Credit Unions are the way to go for gambling transactions. They generally stay out of your business. You're also a partial owner in a credit union once you deposit funds so the fees are substantially lower.

Whenever I'm asked about cash transactions I tell them I hire a lot of strippers.

Whenever they call and ask I ask them if they are hot and tell them I'm looking for more strippers.

Never had an account closed but have gotten 3-4 phone calls. When that happens I just add a new bank and leave the one that is worried alone.

    No I am not joking.

    It ends the conversation.

Caller - Hi, I'm calling from Citibank. You deposited some cash today and we wanted to check the source.

Me - Oh, I held a giant party with like 25 strippers last week and I had some cash left over

    Caller - uh uh ok

Me - Where are you located? You sound young. ARe you hot?

    Caller - what?

Me - Oh, well, if you are hot and young, I'd be happy to hire you to strip.

    Click.

The funny thing is after this type of convo 3-4 times neither of my banks have asked any more questions. My accounts probably have notes about lots of strippers.
