When do you hedge?

At what point is it considered a good idea to hedge? For example, if you have Northwestern -2.5 and the line is now -5.5, should you take Vanderbilt +5.5? I would think not yet, but at what point is it a good idea?

    You shouldn't ever "hedge" IMO

If the line moves enough that the other side is +EV you should make a separate bet on that.

The only time I hedge is when my bushes get too long.....hedging is for landscapers!

When I place a bet I place it to win it and I don't want those winnings to be reduced by playing the other side and trying to get a middle.

    Lumpy is essentially correct.

You should only "hedge" if you think the other side is +EV on its own or you have overbet the original side and need to reduce your exposure. Never hedge, middle, or scalp a great bet just for the sake of doing so.
