My grading is positive points for winners, negative points for losers and zero points for pushes. I'm not sure if that's what Tortuga wants but it makes the most sense to me.

A push was considered a loss last year (see link), so I assume the same holds true this year (especially since the rules mention that you get "x" points for each game "won".

Yes. You only get points for picks that win.

You do realize how silly that is? You play Miami FL and you lay 3.5. You play WVU and you get 2.5. Great for the house, not so great for the player. Reminds me of church blackjack, ties lose.

I'm not sure if my recap program can handle it. I guess I'll recap thinks until we get a push, then all bets are off as to what happens.

Actually, this contest is great for the player and not so great for the house since it's free to enter and you can win prizes. Also, in this contest, you're not playing against the house. You're playing against everyone else who enter and they're all playing by the same rules.

I do understand the point you're making, though. Maybe we'll do it differently next year, but it's too late now because the rules have already been posted and it would be unfair to make changes now.

Not sure if this was mentioned previously but what happens if a game is tied? How many points do you receive?

Looking at the rules of the contest, it appears this would be correct, so no difference if you lose a game by 50 or push, no points. Big advantage for anyone who did not play this game at all, as everybody who did use game, got no points no matter which side you picked. For future reference, it might be a good case for always using a hook on every line in the contest.

dont agree bucky, I was thinking the same thing BUT ...21 games with hook ...do i try to take a team i dont like for the sake of not getting a tie, if i thought it was going to come down to a tie i shouldnt be taking it anyway ,personally i wouldn't do it...I take the game i like and roll the dice.

I would change the rule and just add a hook to every single game so there are no ties, a win or a loss add the points.

There was already a discussion on this earlier in the thread. It’s comical that it happened so soon. I still contend that the only right way to do it is keep the lines the way they are (as accurate as possible) and treat winners as positive points, losers as negative points and ties as zero points. That is how real wagering works so why deviate. I hate contests that artificially add/subtract half points even more. Just deal with pushes like they are dealt with in real wagering, we’re all big boys, we can handle it.

With that said, as Tortuga so eloquently stated, this is a free contest and everybody is playing by the same rules. He did offer to revisit the rule for the future.

I intentionally avoided playing the Mia/WVU game because of the 3. Then I went and played the ODU/La Tech game not realizing that it was a 4 (was incorrectly assuming it was the 5.5 closing line). My bad on that one, can’t fix dumb, I knew the rule and still f’cked it up.

I’ll try to get the first set of recaps up later tonight.

    IMHO
Due to the fact that it was not covered in rules and the weekly contest counted ties as 1/2 value, I would suggest same here
Example a #6 pick would equal 3 points
    This seems fair to all
    Free contests are great!!!
