4-3 2nd and 3rd two out 31 pitches from the closer 20 balls so he walks Rizzo a leftie to face Zobrist another leftie. Just a tough way to lose a game.
It's over. That's baseball 27 outs no stalling

Seems like it happens more often than not in baseball - I had the Red Sox last night up 4-0 bot 8 with price on cruise control and bang a 5 run 8th for the Mariners and a loser for me

Don't miss the point, yes we all lose games like that but when your pitcher can't find home plate and is all over the place and you have a one run lead and 2nd and 3rd you don't walk the Base's loaded unless your changing pitchers to bring in a leftie to face Zobrist. If Rizzo got a hit and they lost 5-4 I can live with that it's the way they loss with another bad decision by Mattingly. Appreciated the post guys and good luck to you.

Edit: Don't know if you seen the game but what upset me is that he walked Zobrist and Zobrist is a player and he knew he was going to get a walk. Ramos couldn't walk the ball up and get strike.

My take on this move comes down to this. Mattingly took the safe "by the book" route. If Rizzo beats him he gets he gets hammered by the press. Zobrist beats him........Ramos takes the heat. A good manager i.e. Showalter wudda pitched to Rizzo(although very carefully).

99 out of 100 managers walk Rizzo there.
The other 1 might have a left specialist to bring in there.
Rizzo is one of the best clutch hitters in the game, hitting like .340 with a near .500 on base with guys in scoring position.
He had only walked one up until that point, who would you rather face at that point, Rizzo or Zobrist.........Zobrist every single time

Waddy, I think Vin Scully coined the phrase "unintentional intentional walk" might fit here.

Maybe "Smoke" Stewart and DBack hierarchy may give Hale the rest of the year to right the ship. With the shit he's dealing with I'm surprised they didn't trade for Puig. He'd be a nice influence in the clubhouse.

    I'm a big underdog here.

I don't thing Stewart or Hale make the year. I watched a little of that game having the Over and he's got them deer eyes poor guy in way over his head. Yes I understand your only as good as your players but they spend money and your job is to get 100% from each and every player. Poor guy almost feel sorry for him "Almost" But he's going to get me a free dinner and I may send him a Thank You card.

Edit: True is it will be good to see you either way.
