I'm going to surprise my wife with a weekend trip to go a see Celine Dion some time in in early March. I don't care to see her, but my wife loves her and she onlys place in Vegas.

Any idea on a decent hotel and a good steakhouse in Vegas? My brother said the comspolitan was a cool place?

A good spa? I figure my wife could be there on Saturday afternoon and I can hit the blackjack tables and the sports book. Any suggestions on a good sports book ?

I also want to see a show maybe on Friday night? Any suggestions.

Thanks for any ideas in advance.

Bellagio is fantastic in my opinion. The wife will love lobby alone. Beautiful flower dsiplay etc.

    Great place, have fun!

Absinthe is great for a show if you aren't offended by crudeness. My wife really liked O at Bellagio too.

The Cosmo overall is the trendiest spot in Vegas. I'm not trendy but I get comped there so that's where I always stay. The rooms are amazing. I think STK at Cosmo is a bit overrated as a steakhouse and you need to make reservations pretty far in advance.

I haven't done too many steakhouses in Vegas, but I thought Craftsteak at MGM was overrated too. I had good experiences at Gordon Ramsay Steak and Prime at Bellagio. Lunch on the terrace deck at Olives at Bellagio is a cool place to take your wife too, overlooks the fountains.

Really enjoyed Smith and Wo on the strip. Also a big fan of Delmonico's in the Venetian.

I stay at green valley ranch , it's off the strip in Henderson. Great book, hanks steakhouse and spa all there , without the craziness of downtown.

The O show is absolutely breathtaking.

Luckily for me, my wife loves gambling and vegas. If you are going for a sat night show for Celine, I presume she still plays at Caesar's Palace. Walking distance is probably important (heels for Mrs. Buythehook?), although my definition of walking distance is pretty far. That said, Bellagio is probably the way to go. That place is amazing. Fork over the extra dough and get a fountain view room in the old tower. The fountains play and the music is on the television. It's pretty cool. The Cosmo is also right next door and pretty hip. They give great comps and all the cool kids hang out there. I played two or three hours of craps there almost two years ago and still get free room offers based on that run. The sports book is nonexistent.

Bellagio sports book is great. Still one of my favorites. It can get cramped and if you don't get a good seat you can find yourself looking up at a big tv (like being in the front row of a movie). But the book is really cool with leather seats, good cocktail service, and decent video poker in the sports book bar if you play $1. I won't say the blackjack at Bellagio is unplayable, but it's nothing like it was 10 years ago.

Prime is very good for a steakhouse, but if you stay at Bellagio, and you want to pass on steak, try Circo. It's italian and the food is amazing. You can also get a table by the window for an up lose fountain view.

If you are willing to walk, and you would consider going in late February, then stay at the Wynn Tower Suites. For the past 5 years we have split our vegas trip into 2 nights Bellagio, 2 nights Wynn Tower Suites. The tower suite experience at Wynn is what Bellagio was like 10 years ago for everyone. The rooms are great, and the hotel is so slow that you can buy suite upgrades that are generally not available to the public for purchase. We have stayed in a salon suite for the last 5 years on the 50th floor or higher. The room is unbelievable (3300 sq ft) and only cost $150 extra per night. The rack rate, when available, is usually 799-1099/night. Just something to keep in mind if you are a little more flexible in your plans.

Speaking of Belagio, here is an embarrassing story.
After a long day of travel we check in to the Belagio, I tell everyone I am going to take an afternoon nap before gambling. I lay down , I hear the room next to me shower come on, I go man this guy is taking a long fuckin shower, but it finally stops, then about 30 minutes the water comes back on, I am furious and call down to the front desk asking them why their room walls are made out of paper , I can hear my neighbor shower and he showers every 30 minutes, lady asks for me to look out my window and I see the fountain show. Oh I say that is nice sorry to bother you. Idiot that I am! Lol

Considering am kinda of a downtown guy, I always hit Hugo's celler at the four queens and Oscars at the plaza , never had a bad meal and from what am told a little less expensive then uptown, but like i said ,am a downtown guy and havent made the trip uptown in a long time so not so sure whats going on up there, sorry. Kill two birds with one stone and go during march madness, might be a bit crazy for your wife, my wife would hate it,and if funds are unlimited take her uptown for sure.
Might check out the m resort and spa , nice buffet .
    Have fun

Meh on Vegas during the NCAA tourney. Far and away the shark move is to go during conference championship week. Many more games, plenty of which are right in town with great atmospheres.

    Initial reactions here:

    1) sand to the beach = no go
    2) celine dione, this should get you one free pass with a hooker
    3) Encore
    4) Steve Wynn steak house

The first two days of the tournament, in Vegas, are a bunch of fun. Do it. Figure out a show for Friday night or Saturday night. Thursday is having a good time and dinner, at least for me. As I don't want to be committed to anything other than basketball...... Take her to lunch one day at the Paris (Mon Ami Gabi) Maybe Saturday. Sit outside, have a drink, people watch and have the great prime rib sandwich. Also EVERY hotel has a spa unless you're staying somewhere questionable.... Send her to the spa Thursday while you're enjoying the games then meet for dinner.

Done it a few times. Most likely doing it again this year. Enjoy it however you decide to do it.

BTH, been living here 26yrs. and not knowing your budget here's what I would recommend: Venetian has nice suite rooms for a decent price with (spa)packages as well, their Canyon Ranch Spa is excellent...you can take the bridge from the Palazzo to Encore into the Wynn to the SW steakhouse which is also excellent, and the sports book (LaGasse Stadium) at the Venetian was re done last year and the screens are great. It will put you right in the middle of everything and as far as a show, you can't go wrong with Mystere at Treasure Island right across the street. It was the original Cirque show and IMO still the best of all of them and yes have seen them all. Other than that if you want something a little more secluded than what BK said would have taken the words out of my mouth as far as GVR (Green Valley Ranch) in fact I could probably get my host there to give you a decent casino rate (which is the least I could do for having that great avatar ;-) -R

Totally agree but have a few comments. Stay at the Palazzo (A few extra $$ but worth the upgrade) and "tip sandwich" with a $20. (http://www.frontdesktip.com/faq/). The steakhouse Reb mentioned at Wynn is ++. So is Carnevino at the Palazzo (this was mentioned by another poster previously). I honestly believe that Lagasse Stadium is the best sportsbook in town. It is located under the front desk/lobby of the Palazzo and has some of the best TVs, the most comfortable seating and the best food of any book in town. Its like watching from an ESPN zone except the food is edible and the service is top notch (and the female employees are worth talking to). You are centrally located to everything, especially the Celine show and tons of shopping nearby for the wife. The Palazzo/Venitian pool area is great and so is the spa (as Reb mentioned).

    Dont forget the Tip Sandwich

Thanks for everyone's ideas and suggestions. I'm going to pick a hotel very soon. I appreciate " TheReb" offering his casino host to give me a good rate. I will let you know if I go that route...

    Have a great New Years!!

Palazzo pool isn't wife friendly but it is one of the best places on earth! If I remember correctly you have to pay for seating at their sportsbook and order a minimum amount of food. I am assuming prices will increase in March.

The topless pool at Encore is not as good as you might hope. Playing blackjack out there is good, but usually the people who you want to be topless are not, and those who should know better are shirtless. I'm sure there are good days out there, but unfortunately not the day I was.
