The legendary coach of the lady Vols has been diagnosed with early onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. She will continue to coach but timetable is unknown.

    Her grandmother had severe dementia but it does seem early. She admitted that that she questioned her coaching decisions due to this.

    That is so sad. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

    It seems a bit early but anymore you never know. I am taking care of my mother who is 84 and was diagnosed with ALZ. about 4 yeras ago. It is such a sad thing to watch and frankly her doctors told us that 50% of people that live to 80 will develope a form of dementia or Alz. The body and mind was not designed to live 80 + and modern meds can prolong life but not the mind. God Bless Pat Summit as she will likely be in very poor shape within 5 years. I had also heard that Dean Smith, the former coach at North Carolina is battling the same situation. In his mid to late 70's but sad no matter what age.
