The Brewers have won the C.C. Sabathia sweepstakes.
The Indians have agreed to trade the ace Sabathia and two lower-level minor leaguers for a package that includes top prospect Matt LaPorta and other minor leaguers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The deal is contingent on the paperwork and medical records, the paper reported.
Sabathia could make his debut as early as Tuesday for the Brewers against the Rockies.
LaPorta, a right-handed slugger who is below-average defensively, would be a better fit for the American League. He was the Brewers' first-round pick in 2007, and played first base at Florida, but the Brewers converted him to left field a position occupied by Ryan Braun, who is signed through 2015.
LaPorta was not in the lineup Sunday for Huntsville's game against Birmingham. Clubs routinely sit players to avoid the risk of injury when a trade is imminent, though the exact reason for LaPorta's absence from the lineup was unclear.
The Indians badly need power. Center fielder Grady Sizemore leads the AL with 22 home runs, but designated hitter Travis Hafner hit only four before going on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain on May 30 and catcher Victor Martinez had zero before going on the DL June 12 with a right-elbow injury.
LaPorta has 20 home runs and 66 RBIs for Class AA Huntsville.
The Phillies, Dodgers and Rays were also bidding for Sabathia. FOXSports.com baseball writer Ken Rosenthal contributed to this report

If they yanks don't go HARD after Sheets and/or Sabathia they are foolish, this is one of the only times two Aces of staffs probably make it to the free agency pool. They put TONS of money in old lead off batters and big sluggers, then grab pitchers in their late 30's. If they want another World Series go hard on one of them (sheets) and make sure to sign em. Just sayin' Although I believe Sabathis is staying but Sheets is moving on.
Yes! Brewers aren't giving up a stud like LaPorte and 2 prospects for half of season. They will make a strong run at him, no doubt. CC turned that down back when he was fresh off a 19-7 season, he might get a similar deal but he isn't getting Santana type contract and isn't getting much more then 72, maybe he just didn't want to stay with cleveland.
actually, that's exactly what they are doing
Problem seems to be cheap ownership. Manny, Thome, & Phillips are three that used to play for Cleveland.
CC must not be all that good, but wait...All Star, Cy Young, innings-eater, never in the news....OH,
I remember, FREE agent!!
If I couldnt bet on baseball, I'd forget all about it.
