Pointless post (NOT REALLY) ...

In a day filled with posts that don't always have to do with gambling, I
thought now would be a good time to state my sadness about this tsunami.
First off, I hope all of you realize this is the news story of the year.
I think the U.S. media has finally started to catch up and realize the
magnitude of this story.
I have never seen anything like this. We aren't seeing all the pictures,
but there are beaches with hundreds of bodies on them and sea pools with
bodies floating in them. This is one of the worst natural disasters of all
time. The death toll is approaching 25,000 people for an event that
happened in one day! Things will continue to get worse as everything is
uncovered and as disease sets in.
I hope everybody said a prayer or did their little thing for the victims.
I cannot believe how many children died. This was horrible.

...truly a horrific human tragedy. Hope aid can get there to help those
who survived and to help prevent disease. Not going to be easy though
    unfortunately.

the Motor City Bowl. I am glued to the evening news.
One guy, I heard, died of a heart attack as the wave was coming. He was
    on a beach.
The sea level in SAN DIEGO rose 10 inches according to Keith Olberman.

    International Response Fund

Perhaps we can do a pool for the remaining bowl games and donate 1/2 the
    pot?

I know that would help in a round about way. I wish there were a specific
charity set up for this. Most of these people were very poor.

Actually I heard that a full 30% of the people were foreigners vacationing
there. Hardly what I would call poor.. but yes, it's a noble cause.

My only problem with stuff like that is if that quake hit off the coast of
California and it was L.A. that was deluged by a 33 foot tidal wave, would
people from India be donating to charity for us?

    I highly doubt it.

that was the best comment I have read on this situation. I feel bad for
everyone, but would anyone lift a finger to help us Americans. Not trying
to be an a hole, but that is a great point, that not many people consider.

america and americans are expected to help but if we need it forget it
Also the other to consider is why can we continue to worry about other
nations when we have our own sleeping under bridges and passages

this isn't Japan we're talking about. These countries are nowhere near us
on an economic level. This is a humanitarian issue and what makes the U.S.
a great humanitarian country is helping lesser countries in situations
    like this.
That post was interesting, not well thought out, full of bad taste, and
    I'll let it slide.

To follow up my original point..

If it was such a bad place then howcome it was populated with 30%
foreigners? From my experience, people do not generally travel to places
    they dont enjoy visiting.

I dont mean to step on any toes and it is indeed a tragedy. If this board
wishes to donate money to the Red Cross it is indeed money well spent. I
just have an entirely seperate view and I know I would be one of the only
ones to step up and voice my opinion.

America needs to take care of it's own problems. When I stop reading
daily headlines about poverty and jobless rates hitting all time highs
then I'll begin donating to other countries. I stand by our First
Amendment, as always. This will be the last I will comment on this matter.

    Thank you.

Show some sympathy and intelligence. IThey are many 3rd world countries
which are tourist destinations(in fact can't think of many islands that
aren't poverty stricken)In many circumstances our(anglo-saxon) own people
are partly to blame for putting them in their state of dispair. We are in
this thing together and should help our fellow man. Put yourself in their
    shoes.

definitely a couple tasteless posts I don't agree with at all here. There
are going to be economic and job problems in every country, but above all
that, we have probably the best living conditions in the world here in
N.America and if countries like the U.S. , Canada, England ,
Germany,,etc.... and others don't donate money to the Red Cross and other
relief organizations, its scary to think about how many more people could
die from starvation and lack of housing and clothing after an event like
this happens. And believe me , its not just the U.S. that is the only
country in the world donating to the Red Cross after a tragedy like this.

if that bothers people but I served this country in the Army to have the
ability to say what I want when I want it is beyond time that the US is
the money market for the world house the homeless and feed the hungry IN
the US then we can start to worry if other countries homeless and hungry
are fed in the depression did we get help HELL NO we fought through it and
came out of it on our own. With that said god bless those people but i
will spend my money on Americans thanks all the same
