Figuring out a way for the leagues to get a piece of the action is a key component IMO, so some acknowledgement from them is a good first step.

The leagues have always had an interest in sports betting legalization, for much the same reason that they have an interest in fantasy football. The leagues at present can profit off fantasy football - either directly or indirectly - and therefore they'll do anything possible to foster its growth. At last check, all the major sports sites operate fantasy games, including NFL.com.

What the leagues can't do at present is profit off sports betting (at least not directly), and until they can figure out how, I doubt there will be any real urgency to get anything done.

Black betting market in the US is estimated at 350 Billion a year.
In England, where sports betting is legal, more money is bet on the British Open than on the Superbowl in the US.
Legalization would mean more money for government and leagues. A small bet can increase even the dumbest match ups in a must-follow event. More viewers that stay tuned in means higher income from ads, and so forth....... money monie monni....show me the money $$$$$$

    Inevitable
    Easy

I've seen casino advertising, but never from betting sites.

Which betting sites, out of curiosity?

Would have to look back the article. Have not seen betting sites myself, casino's yes. Maybe I'm misquoting Silver here. Let's leave it in the middle.
