# 7 AMERICAN JOE has no excuses today facing a dreadful field of bottom
level maiden claimers. Returned from a layoff May 24 and ran 2nd to a
front running winner who got away with a slow pace. Ed Plesa runner
stepped up to face slightly tougher June 10 and was only beaten 1 1/2
lengths for 2nd after racing evenly throughout. Comes back today in his
third start off the layoff, retains the services of Eddie Castro and takes
a drop in class to the lowest level of his career. Silver Charm colt is
the one to beat.
