Alex Smart

San Diego Padres @ Pittsburgh Pirates u8.0
Tue Aug 2 '05 7:05p

Jake Peavy the Padres starting pitcher for todays contest against Pirates
is currently in top form and has garnered a very stable 3.24 ERA on the
season that includes a 3.74 road ERA. The hard throwing Padres righty owns
a 3-1 record and a very stingy 1.69 ERA in 4 career starts against the
Bucks. The Pirates will send Kip Wells to the hill to face a cold as ice
Padres batting order that has averaged just 1.9 RPG via a lowly .225 BA in
their L/7 overall tilts. Wells has pitched his very best baseball at home
in 2005 as is evidenced by a tight 3.04 ERA that spans 10 starts. The
Pirates hurler is 4-0 lifetime vs San Diego along with a stellar 2.34 ERA.
Final notes: Wells has suffered from the worst run support in the NL (2.9
RPG). Pittsburgh has averaged just 3.6 RPG vs RH starters like Peavy this
season. Bottom line: Everything points to a low scoring pitchers duel here
this evening. .

LT Profits

Oakland Athletics (-125)
Tue Aug 2 '05 8:10p

We have been riding this Oakland team since after the All-Star break, so
why stop now at this very reasonable price?

After all, the Athletics are the hottest team in baseball having won 18 of
their last 21 games after beating the Twins ace Johan Santana here last
night. They remain the best second half team in the Majors over the last 4
years, as they are now a remarkable 217-105, 67.4% in their last 312
post-All-Star games. It gets even better as Oakland is a PERFECT 12-0 in
the last 12 games started by Danny Haren! This will be the first career
start for Haren vs. Minnesota, which should be to his advantage.

One has to question the psyche of this Twins team right now. The AL
Central favorites entering the season have lost 9 of their last 11 games,
lost All-Star Torii Hunter over the weekend, and lost with their ace on
the mound last night in what might have been their best chance to win a
game in this series. Joe Mays looks like a shell of the good pitcher he
was before his arm injury, and he is winless with a robust 8.10 ERA and
1.62 WHIP over his last 3 starts.
