LT Profits

St. Louis Cardinals (-105)
Thu Aug 4 '05 8:10p

The Cardinals have far and away the best record in the National League at
68-39, and this in itself makes them virtually an automatic selection as a
Pick at home.

Of course the reason for this cheap line is that Florida is starting A.J.
Burnett, who can be as nasty as any pitcher in the game when he is on.
However, Burnett has been maddeningly inconsistent throughout his career
including this season, as he is just 8-6 despite his overpowering stuff.
Yes he has tossed 3 consecutive Quality Starts, but those came against 3
light-hitting teams (Washington, San Francisco, Arizona). He now must
contend with a St. Louis lineup that is batting a hearty .305 vs.
right-handed pitching over the last 10 games!

Jeff Suppan has not been terrible this year going 10-7 with a 4.28 ERA,
and that ERA drops to 3.86 when he pitches here at home. Unlike Burnett,
Suppan has been consistent while tossing 7 Quality Starts in his last 10
outings. He has also been brilliant in his two starts vs. Florida,
allowing a total of just 3 runs and 9 hits in 13 2/3 innings of work. He
is facing a struggling Florida offense that has averaged only 3.50 runs
per game over the last 10 games, as compared to 5.80 runs the Cards are
scoring over this same span.
