I now it first aired a few years ago, but I just watched the espn 30 for 30 on him. I thought it was very good.

I wanted I see if anyone from Vegas ( old timer, etc) had any cool stories of him, or what they thought of the documentary?

I would talk to the Greek occassionally @Churchill Downs Race Book. He loved horses. Very opinionated and loved to preach. An all around good guy that gambled with his own money.

BTH, I saw it a couple of years ago . It was OK. The 30-30 crew always puts out a good show. I will add however, I never hear JTG ever make any racial slurs, etc.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I remember at one point his picks were so bad a casino in Vegas did not charge juice if you played his picks. Lol

I've never witnessed this, but some oldtimers would tell me JTG would come in on the sports side of Churchill and copy the posted lines. He'd then go to the phones and release them as the Greek' s line.

Ron-- I'm getting so damn old-- I forgot where Churchill was located. I can remember Del Mar, Santa Anita, etc-- but Churchill slips my mind.

He was spot on with the breeding part just don't know why he added the extra bone. Must been 'the buzz' he had going on.

BTD if I knew you were that old I wouldn't have been giving u a hard time. :smoking: Churchill Downs R&Sportsbook was in a strip mall next to the late Aladin(north). Two down from them was Gene Mayday's "Little Caesars".The banks of payphones(extinct) did more biz than some of the mom and pop stores near there.

You didn't know Dogs grew up on dirt floors. Were going to have an over 60 get together to gamble and talk medical problems. All I know is when Jimmy like a side I faded it. He had a nice gig just said the wrong thing if I remember it was that Black people couldn't be QB's or something. Good Guy never knew him personally just a deg gambler that loved the attention. Who Wouldn't at that time Just a different era where money was to be made just a little easier then now.

Right... I used to go into Mayday's place all the time-- forgot Churchill was right next door.

Mayday only bookmaker that would let you tease baseball total's and you thought he was nuts as you ripped up your tickets.

He was way ahead of his time.......but toward the end he fell behind. A few salvos from the golf magnate and health(BW induced?) steered his ship in the retirement direction. Yeah OT, those baseball total teasers looked like a piece of cake. We made him change the rules much later concerning those Astrodome and Chavez Ravine 6's but all in all he got the money. We mentioned it earlier that in the Cinn/SFO Superbowl(89) he took a million dollar bet from the Polish Prince Stupak @105juice. Stupak took Cinn+6.5 and cashed. It was no publicity stunt.......real deal. Like you said, it was so much easier then to make $$. Today you struggle to make expenses and tokes.
