Mobile sports betting arrives in Rhode Island; 9,000-square-foot sportsbook opens in N.Y.

Mobile sports betting has arrived in Rhode Island.

The state revenue department says the mobile application launched Wednesday at Twin River Casino in Lincoln. The department said Thursday there were no major issues, although some gamblers found the casino application slow to load. Several hundred people signed up.

Gamblers must register in person so the casino can verify their age and that they and aren’t banned from the property for a past violation.

The state’s goal is to launch mobile betting next week at the other Rhode Island casino offering sports betting, Tiverton Casino Hotel, after testing is complete.

A nearly 9,000-square-foot sportsbook opened in New York.

New York state’s largest sportbook (sports betting parlor) is now open at the Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango.

The nearly 9,000-square foot lounge combines a full service sports bar with a betting parlor featuring a 32-foot LED screen and more than 35 large-screen TVs, plus betting windows and kiosks. It opened just in time for the NFL season, which kicks off Thursday night with a game between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

Buffalo Wild Wings and MGM will work together to bring sports betting to the restaurant in certain locations.

In the coming months, patrons will be able to view odds and point spreads on screens at Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants. The participating locations are all in states where sports betting is legal. The companies are also planning to launch “Picks and Props,” a free mobile football game that will utilize point spreads and prop bets while handing out prizes to winners.

Winners can play from Thursday to Sunday and will have to visit their local Buffalo Wild Wings to collect prizes. Some of the prizes are set to include trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

“The conversation surrounding sports betting heated up very quickly,” Buffalo Wild Wings president Lyle Tick said. “Sports betting provides us with an opportunity to continue to build the community and engagement that is so much a part of what we do.”

The Kansas City Chiefs enter the season as favorites to win the Super Bowl.

The New Orleans Saints, the favorites in the NFC, are next at 8-1, followed by Chicago Bears at 9-1. The Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Ramsare each 13-1 at Caesars Sportsbook.
