FanDuel’s NFL Week 1 contests will open Tuesday; salaries for select players unveiled

If you can’t wait the nearly two months before the NFL season kicks off, FanDuel is here to help you pass the time.

On its Insider blog Monday, the site announced that Week 1 contests will be posted Tuesday. That’s Tuesday, as in July 21. As in tomorrow.

Some salaries are already posted, meaning users can start plotting out lineups immediately.

Of note:

  • Aaron Rodgers is the highest-priced  player on the board at $9,700; rookie QB Jameis Winston will cost you just $6,900, $200 cheaper than Marcus Mariota.
  • If you wanna play Adrian Peterson, get ready to pay. He’s coming in as the most expensive RB at $9,300. A couple of potential steals (ya know, depending on what happens in the next SEVEN WEEKS) include Tampa Bay’s Charles Sims ($6,300) and Dallas’ Joseph Randle ($7,000).
  • Antonio Brown will be your highest-priced wide receiver ($9,500), while teammate and legitimate deep threat Martavis Bryant could be a popular tourney play with a price tag of just $6,000.

Depending on your level of cynicism, the fact that these contests are launching more than 50 days before the season kicks off is either a testament to the NFL’s unmatched popularity, or a clever attempt by an operator not offering golf, NASCAR or MMA to draw users in during one of the year’s slowest periods.
