OT - Did you ask for the retention dept for the football package or talk to customer service discount?

Retention Dept. The clerks remind me of market coordinators in the Casino they look you up and all they can do for you is what's on the computer no more. But if your a regular they would call the Host who had the autonomy to do what was necessary to make the customer happy up to a point of course and that's what the retention dept is. I don't speak to anyone that's not from the retention dept. The clerks like that less to do for them.

Do you just ask for them or say when your choices are asked, pick close account?

When I called and asked for retention department on automated I still got the generic customer service clerk and then had to be transferred to retention.

That's exactly right. I've been on occasion connected to the Retention Dept but that's rare. When you get connected ask is this the retention dept and write there name down. So far with all my calls they're all from Idaho and I always tell them I love potatoes and laugh breaks the ice they know why your calling them and it's also been unseasonably hot this time of year there. Then I tell them how hot Vegas is and we're in a full blown conversation before I plead my case. With the Auto lady just interrupt her and say retention dept then she gives you that BS what is it so I can direct you to the proper person. Just say Mistake and they connect you right away.

I made my annual call, I got $50 off for a year and also $9 off for a year which more or less pays for the sunday ticket, then for 6 months $59 dollars off bill. Hope all is well with all members, my buccos are starting to heat up with Cutch starting to find his swing on the 6 game road trip to the Left Coast, I just hope these young arms and Cole can keep pitching the way they are.

Don't be surprised if they black out the NFL games on the local channels. They usually do if it is part of a sports package.

I always do this as a 2-step process. Today, I completed the first step, which is calling to cancel the Sunday Ticket (since I've got it on "auto-renew"). In canceling it, they offered me a free upgrade to the Max (Red Zone channel, short cuts, player tracker, etc), and 20% off the price of the ticket (so $215 for the season instead of the standard $270 or $360 for the Max). I turned it down, figuring I'll call the retention department in a few weeks and ask to cancel all service to see how much better I can do.

I believe that's what I have. I paid $100 but no red zone and no fantasy. Don't watch the red zone and don't play Fantasy. IDK the red zone does do anything for me I like to watch the game drive unfold. Bu

I got mind for $100 like I just mentioned to Jets plus a couple of small discounts for 12 months. I'll call the end of Sept when things settle down and see what else they'll give me because all my discounts dropped off this last bill. But you need to do that on every sports package to cancel the renewal right after the season or when you get close either way. It's a little harder and depends on who you get but just keep calling and even though it's all in front of them on the computer you can always do a little better with the right person. It's a new game and it does test your skill lol

Made a call today to test the waters and see if they were willing to do anything. As always, I started the call by telling them that I'd like to cancel service to end up with Retentions. They offered me $45/month off my bill for 12 months if I ordered the Sunday Ticket and stayed with DirecTV. The ticket is billed in 6 installments of $44.99, so basically it's getting the ticket free and then getting 45/month off the bill for the other 6 months of the year. As usual, the 10-15 minute phone call was well worth the time. At least from what I've seen, the merger with AT&T has had no impact on the discounts that they offer every year when threatening to cancel.

We've got ATT and DTV bundled as my wife's cell is with AT&T. On the Directv side, we've got Choice Extra Classic (basically everything outside of any movie channels, of which we have none), with the Sports Pack, Fox Soccer Plus, MLB Extra Innings (which I only got due to comps making it free) and Sunday Ticket (ditto). We've got the whole home DVR genie with 5 TVs (3 of which are HD). Been with them since about this time in 2007, and have always had pretty much the same level of programming.

Guys just a heads up I already got $58 off my sunday ticket which means I more or less got it free, well tonite I called to voice my dipleasure with their on Demand. A show I watch SUITS I went to pull up the episodes I missed and it skips from S6 E1 to E4 no E2 or E3, so the girl started talking to me and said the same thing happened to her show she watches on Cinemax missing episodes on Demand so I said I have been a customer for over 22 years what can U do for me, she gave me $38 off the next 6 months $7 off 4 premium pkgs, and $10 off sports channels. So guys give it a try and complain about missing episodes on demand. OT just wanted to let you know my Mom who turns 90 in December suffered a heart attack yesterday headed down to Norfolk, will update you.

Don't know what I did to deserve it but they gave me the Sunday ticket free, $15/ month off my bill for 2 years and the rest of the MLB season free. Must have caught them in a good mood. I did say I was retired, on Social Security, plus I did use a little humor on them. Worked for me.

Not to be a topper, but I'm going to top your offers. I called Sunday morning to "cancel" my service. They had already given me $40 off the month before when I called in August to try it out. I told the agent I got a good deal with Time Warner and they were also giving me all the movie channels free for a year. I also told them Time Warner has the Red Zone channel included and I couldn't afford to pay for the Ticket. The agent says she'll give me the ticket for half off, $180. I said I'd be paying $180 for the Red Zone channel. She stuck to her guns. I said TW was coming on Wednesday and she scheduled the service to be disconnected. Meanwhile, I wasn't serious and was just going to call back by tomorrow and say I was keeping it.

I was on duty yesterday so wasn't able to do anything but received an email to call to maintain service. This morning on my drive home I receive a call from a random number and answer it. It was my "personal account manager" from DirecTv. She says what can they do to keep me as a customer. I told her the same things I told the other lady on Sunday, Time Warner has a better deal, giving me movie channels, Red Zone, etc. She says she's going to lock in my monthly charge for the next 12 months at $60.91. She gave me the movie channels for free, and NFL Ticket Max for free. She is also sending me a $200 gift card! Wtf??? They went above and beyond. I didn't bitch, just made a logistical comparison that switching to TW was more beneficial (which I made up). I've only been with DTV since 2010 or 2011, so there's bargains to be had. Good luck!

ok called to cancel today , got some chick from N.o and i started to talk about mardi gras and how i wanted the saints to beat the giants last week so after a little bullshiting she game me .....i pay for hbo and showtime 30.99 a month ...new price 14.99 for a year so thats a savings of 179.88.
Then for the football package she says i cant give you anything off for that but i have something better for you....ill give you 60 off a month for 12 months. thats 720 savings and minus 359.94 for the football package thats a saving s of about 360 for the year ...so 360 plus 180 total saving of 540 ...ill take it .last months bill was 222 so minus the 75 bucks the bill will be around about 150 ...thats still highway robbery
