THE PLAYERS Championship - First Look (from PGAtour.com)

    • COURSE: TPC Sawgrass (Stadium), 7,215 yards, par 72. Fashioned from 415 acres of wooded wetlands purchased for $1 by then-commissioner Deane Beman, architect Pete Dye created a layout that challenges all parts of a player’s game and plays no favorites. No two consecutive holes on the Stadium Course play in the same direction, doglegs were created in both directions and care was taken to offer both short and long holes of every par. No hole, though, gets more attention than its shortest – the 137-yard 17th over water to a green connected to land only by a narrow pathway from the back left.

    • FIELD WATCH: World No. 1 Rory McIlroy and new Masters champion Jordan Spieth join defending champion Martin Kaymer to head up one of the year’s deepest lineups. The roster features 49 of the top 50 in the current Offiical World Golf Ranking and 56 of the top 60. ... Tiger Woods, one of just six multiple winners at THE PLAYERS, sees his first action since he tied for 17th at the Masters. That was his first start since a two-month layoff.

    • LAST YEAR: Kaymer endured a rain delay and suspense-filled final hour before finally ending a 28-month winless drought, holding off Jim Furyk by a stroke in fading light. Kaymer led by three when storms forced a 90-minute delay with four holes left, and all momentum had left when the German returned to the course. An aggressive play led to double bogey at No. 15, and he couldn’t regain a shot after finding a collection area at the par-5 16th.
Calamity almost struck again at No. 17, where his tee shot spun back toward the water before stopping in the collar. A weak chip left Kaymer a 30-foot putt – which found the cup for an improbable par. A safe par at No. 18 completed a closing 71, as Furyk (66) hoped for a playoff. It was Kaymer’s first win anywhere since the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa at the end of 2012.

    • STORYLINES: Spieth seeks to rebound at a place where he took a share of the lead into last year’s final round. Only Woods (2001) has captured the Masters and THE PLAYERS in the same year. … The Match Play’s final four will face a challenging turnaround, going seven matches at TPC Harding Park before jetting coast-to-coast to prepare for one of the TOUR’s most perplexing layouts. … Kaymer, like every defending champion at TPC Sawgrass, has a chance to make history as the event’s first back-to-back winner. Mark McCumber came the closest, winning in 1988 and tying for sixth in ’89.

I like Spieth and Bubba to be top performers. I like Blixt, Cink, Koepka as value guys. I like Vijay Singh as my longshot flyer.

If I was going to pick 1 guy I'd be surprised if I own anyone more heavily than Matsuyama.

I agree with this. I'd say him or Spieth would be solid anchors.

Quite a few ways to go with this. Like Spieth and Mickelson. I also like Hideki at that price this week. Reed and Schwartzel are good value plays in my eyes.

93 sand traps and 24 water hazards on the course. Scrambling will probably be pretty key, but sounds like this is the kind of course that suits the overall player. Lots of top options to choose from, good thing we have multiple lineups.

I like Rory and Spieth at the top (Spieth was -15 under par in 49 holes before being bounced at match play last weekend and T4th here last year).

Matsuyama and Kuchar look like great options for this course.

Do I dare even mention Tiger Woods?

I like Sergio this week, likes the course and flying a little bit under the radar.

I like Sergio too. Should definitely be under the radar since he hasn't been dominating like some of the other guys, but he's been very consistent. 11 straight cuts made at this event, the longest current streak.

I'm going over everyone's suggestions now and working on creating the lineups. Probably be 2-3 hours before I finalize, will post when completed.

According to Rosanforte, no reason was given, but he said "everything is okay".

I think it was to conserve energy for this tournament. The possibly of playing 7 matches if he made it all the way through, and then have to fly back accross country to prepare for this event probably wasn't that appealing to him.

Here's the links to the standings page and the owned percentages of our guys. Lineup #1 has great potential with 5 of the 6 super low owned - if I didn't include Koepka! Hard to believe he actually has SIX birdies thru 15 holes today, but 2 bogeys, 1 double bogey, and two worse than double bogeys have him currently at +6. Yikes! :idoit:

Jordan Spieth off to a +3 start. Some of these guys are just really struggling out there today. Spieth will probably shoot an -8 under tomorrow though and be okay. We'll see how it all shakes out at the end of today.

Long live Matsuyama. Too bad he's 30 percent owned and Summerhays is dragging down my LUs that could contend. Guessing the cut line is somewhere between +1 and +3 so guys are still alive just a tough trip home.

Was kind of a sad day from these groups but lineup #2 looks to be in best shape. If I've learned anything from playing daily fantasy golf it's not to get too excited or bummed by round 1 scores. We need to get inside the top 1725 to cash this week. We'll see what happens tomorrow!
