    1500* - Portland Trail Blazers, 500*s - Milwaukee w/Gallardo over Paulino, Detroit w/Porcello over G
I think Game One's 108-81 romp by the Rockets has skewed the thinking in this series just a little. Portland battled hard in Game Two, and scratched out the 4-point win but no cover as the 6-point favorite.

I expect a similar style game tonight in Houston, as I see Portland staying close to Houston all the way in this one, with the game being decided late by a basket or two tops.

The Blazers have covered 7 of their last 9 on the road this year, and while, and they have been able to split the last 4 against the spread on Houston's hardwood.

I don't doubt for a minute that this is a bad matchup long haul for the upstart Blazers, but Houston does have a history of not making it out of the 1st round, so look for the points to work in this one tonight.

Take Portland in what should be a closely played, hotly-contested affair.

    1500♦ - Portland Trail Blazers

On the diamond I like the way Milwaukee is pitching and hitting right now, and I expect their good fortune to continue tonight in Houston.

The Astros were cooled down in yesterday's 2-0 loss to the Dodgers, and now they face a Milwaukee team that took the last pair in Philly, and have won 3 of their last 4 overall.

Yovani Gallardo has been tough on the road early this year, going 1-0 in his 2 roadies, allowing 2 runs in 13 innings of work. Gallardo also went 2-0 back in 2007 against Houston, without allowing an earned run in 15 frames of work!

Felipe Paulino is coming off 6 shutout frames in his debut 5 days ago, but can he duplicate that effort?

    I don't think so!

Milwaukee is 21-12 versus Houston the last 2 seasons, and they get them again tonight.

    Take the Brewers.

    500♦ - Milwaukee w/Gallardo over Paulino

♦♦Note: Both listed pitchers must start, or no action on the play!♦♦

American League, and Zach Greinke has to give up a run(s) sometime, doesn't he?

Greinke has been lights-out this April, but he is matched against an up-n-comer in Rick Porcello who notched his 1st big league win in his last start at Seattle.

Detroit is 11-7 the last 2 seasons at Kauffman Stadium, and the price on this game is absolutely perfect for a play on the "live" dog.

Geinke has been great, but tonight's line is inflated, and the Tigers do have some sticks in that lineup that are capable of putting up a few runs.

Take Detroit in the underdog role.

    500♦ - Detroit w/Porcell over Greinke

♦♦Note: Both listed pitchers must start, or no action on the play!♦♦

PLEASE...Wait on this Bet...CRIS, BETUS ,BODOG, ect...have all gone to 5.5, and the Majority of Public Bettors still haven't pulled the trigger on the Cavs...Which they certainly will...That may force the books to adjust this Line to 6...Which is by far the Biggest "KEY" Number in the NBA...
My line shows that this number is already 3pts too high...considering it's a Playoff Game...And the Cleveland bandwagon continues to grow, which the books are well aware of...That's the reason that they are forcing bettors to pay such a premium to back them...And their plan is working, as bettors can't seem to get enough of the Cavs, regardless the number...
We'll go ahead and grab the Points...in a game we may very well see a ML Winner for Detroit...But with that said, we always look to get the best of it...and if we can get this bet down at +6, then we are getting even more the best of it...than at +5.5...VR

    Friday's Action
    1000♦ Cleveland Cavaliers

Take Cleveland minus the points tonight in Detroit.

In what is the easiest call of the night I love the Cavaliers as they bury the Pistons tonight in game three of this series. After all given the pair of double digit wins for Cleveland to start this series it is very clear that Detroit just does not match up to the Cavaliers. In fact once you factor in that Cleveland has won the last 5 series meeting, while covering 4 of those 5 games is very clear that Cleveland is just better then Detroit. Well given the plethora of losing number Detroit currently has of 5 straight loses, 0-6 ATS in their last six games and a losing 2-8 ATS in their last 10 overall games I just don’t see any miracle win tonight for the Pistons. Not when Cleveland is playing very well right now by winning and covering 7 of their last 8 games, including winning both games in this series by an average of 15 points per game. Bottom line I see nothing short of a Cleveland blowout tonight as the Cavaliers lay the foundation for a series sweep tonight. Take Cleveland minus the road chalk as they win by double digits once again.

    All Cleveland!

    200♦ Florida Marlins

Go with the Marlins tonight over the Phillies for a few reasons. First is I like the Marlins returning home where they are a solid 5-1 so far this season. Reason number two throwing tonight for Florida is Johnson who 2-0 with a 2.91 ERA in three starts has been close perfect this season. Meanwhile, for the Phillies it’s hard seeing them winning given their losing 6-8 record and the fact they are going with Myers who carries in a 5 plus ERA into tonight. Even better it’s the Phillies who 5-16 in the last 21 games Myers has against Florida. So sticking with the numbers I say take the Marlins at home tonight as they bounce back with an easy home win after being swept in Pittsburgh last series out.

    All Florida!

    Dr. Bob

    NBA
    2 Star Selection
    DETROIT (+5 1/2) over Cleveland
    24-Apr-09 04:05 PM Pacific Time
The Pistons were thoroughly dominated in the first 2 games of this series in Cleveland, but that certainly doesn’t mean they’ll be dominated tonight at home. Teams that lose the first 2 games of a series by a combined 30 points or more are actually 13-4 straight up and 16-1 ATS in game 3 at home since 2004. That includes last year’s 72-108 loss by Cleveland at Washington after the Cavs won the first two games by a combined 37 points. You may also remember how last year’s top team, the Celtics, won games 1 and 2 against Atlanta by 23 points and 19 points and then lost straight up 93-102 as an 8 ½ point road favorite in game 3. Cleveland is 33-15 ATS in all playoff games in the LeBron James era, but the Cavs are just 1-5 ATS in those games if they are coming off consecutive wins and a playoff win of 10 points or more in their last game – so this would be the game that the Cavaliers let up. Detroit has been horrible at home this season (13-28 ATS), but using their home games (with Rasheed Wallace playing) against Cleveland’s road games yields a line of Cavs by 4 points and using all games (home or road) gives me a fair price of 3 points in this game. Detroit also applies to the same 57-20-3 ATS playoff situation that applied to both Dallas and Utah last night and I’ll take Detroit in a 2-Star Best Bet at +4 points or more.
2-Stars at +4 or more. (if you have +5, then you should wait for the line to go to +5 1/2)

    Opinion
    Orlando (-3 ½) over PHILADELPHIA
    24-Apr-09 05:05 PM Pacific Time
The 76ers were lucky to split their two games in Orlando considering that they were down by 18 points in each game, and their 100-98 game 1 win was a function of 3-point shooting variance (Philly made 58% to Orlando’s 28% from 3 point range in game 1). Philadelphia’s 3-point shooting returned to normal in game 2 (31% is barely above what was expected), but Orlando (a 38% 3-point shooting team for the season) made only 6 of 23 long range shots (26%) in game 2. The Magic have outscored the Sixers by 7 points in this series despite making just 11 of their 41 3-point shots (27%) while the 76ers, the NBA’s worst 3-pint shooting team at 32% for the season, has made 43% of their 3-pointers. Orlando has proven themselves to be the far superior team in this series and only 3-point shooting variance has kept them from winning by double-digits in each game. Road favorites or picks are 11-3 ATS in game 3 of a best of 7 series if they did not win both games 1 and 2 and I expect Orlando to reclaim the home court advantage in this series (as long as the 3-point percentages are close to normal for each team). Philadelphia is still just 2-12 straight up and 4-10 ATS against the league’s top 4 teams (Lakers, Cavs with James playing, Celtics and Magic), including 0-7 straight up and 1-6 ATS at home. Orlando, meanwhile, is 21-6-1 ATS in road games when not favored by 6 points or more (excluding their final week road losses at NJ and Milw when they sat their starters) and they won and covered both games in Philly. My ratings favor Orlando by only 2 ½ points, so the line is a bit high, but the situation is favorable and I’ll consider Orlando a Strong Opinion at -4 or less and I’d take the Magic in a 2-Star Best Bet at -3 or less.

    Opinion
    Portland (+6) over HOUSTON
    24-Apr-09 06:35 PM Pacific Time
The Rockets out-played the Blazers in the first 2 games, winning by 27 points in game 1 and losing by just 4 points in game 2, but my ratings favor Houston by just 5 points in this game and the situation actually slightly favors the Blazers. I’ll lean with Portland at +5 or more.

    Karl Garrett

30 DIMER - DETROIT TIGERS (Porcello over Greinke)....10 DIMERS - CAVS & BLAZERS
30 DIMER - DETROIT TIGERS (Porcello over Greinke)

No one in the bigs has pitched better than Zach Grienke of the KC Royals, as Greinke has won ALL 3 of his starts, and has not allowed a run to score in any of his starts.

You know the G-Man just loves situations like this, as you know damn well that sooner or later, Greinke is going to give up a few runs, and I feel tonight is the night it happens!

Both teams are 8-7, but it is Detroit that has gone 11-7 the last 2 years in games played at Kansas City.

Oh, and by the way, the Tigers youngster Rick Porcello showed what he is capable of doing at this level, as he stymied the Seattle Mariners in Seattle, working 7 innings while allowing just 1 run to score for his 1st big league win his last time out!

I am not saying Greinke is going to get bombed, but at this price, you HAVE TO play the underdog Tigers, as they do have the better overall hitters, and chances are they are going to break through, and scuff up Zach just enough to post the win.

    10 DIMER - CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

The once-feared Pistons are dying a slow death, and tonight they will be put to the brink of elimination, as Cleveland deals them the "death blow" with a big win, and cover at the Auburn Palace.

Cleveland has won 5 straight now over Detroit, and they have covered in 4 of those 5. The Cavs do not like the Pistons, and vice-versa, so I would expect Cleveland to come out for blood this evening since the rest of the Eastern Conference playoffs appear to be going to go on a little longer than this series might.

The Cavs want some rest in between series', and that means they must put the dagger in the Pistons heart in this one.

Expect it to happen, as Detroit has now lost 5 in a row, and 8 of their last 11 straight up, and have failed 6 straight against the spread.

    Cavs take it!

10 DIMER - PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS

Going to go against the grain in this one, as I feel sure the public will jump on the Rockets in this home game, especially after the way Houston blew out the Blazers in Game One at the Rose Garden.

Portland was able to fight back and win Game Two, but did not cover as the favorite. Look for a similar game to develop tonight, as I have a feeling the Blazers who have covered 7 of their last 9 on the road are going to keep this one tight for the full 4 quarters.

Keep in mind Houston has had trouble escaping the 1st round of the postseason for a long, long time, and that collar gets awfully tight when you are expected to deliver.

Take the points, as the young Blazers prove sticky tonight for the Rockets.

    Today's Complimentary Selection

Well, here we go once again, the annual Yankees-Red Sox rivalry renews tonight at Fenway Park, and both team come in sporting winning streaks. New York has captured 3 in a row, while Boston has won 7 in a row to improve to 7-2 this season at home.

G-Man will back Boston on their home field to draw first blood, as Jon Lester looks like he has shaken off his 2 early bombings, and has righted his ship. Lester fired 7 scoreless his last time out in a home win over Baltimore.

Lester also went 2-0 in his 3 starts against the Yankees a season ago, working 23 innings while allowing a scant 3 runs to score.

Joba Chamberlain is still a work in progress in the starting rotation, and his last start of 5 runs in just 5 innings in a no-decision against the Indians has the G-Man not trusting Joba in this series opening spot.

Boston's 7-game winning streak is the one that continues, while the Yankees 3-game uptick takes the hit.

Go with the Red Sox minus the small home chalk.

    4♦ BOSTON
    (on a 1♦ to 5♦ basis)
