Could you provide me with a brief definition of steam? Is is always sharp money or can it be public sometimes? Or does it depend on who is betting the game rather than the amount bet? thanks

Steam - the term was originally only applied to favorite lines that were being bet (steamed) up. Moving say from -1 to -2 to -3. Steam rises, slowly and visibly in much the same way that the suppossed "sharp" players would watch the public bet up their beloved favorites. Simple explanation, that game was "catching the steam" and rising. Now the term has come to mean any line that is being bet heavily and causes a line movement in accordance (either up or down). Some new players will say that a line being "steamed" down is being "drowned".
