Arizona Cardinals now listed as Super Bowl co-favorites in latest futures odds

On the heels of their ninth consecutive win, the Arizona Cardinals are now the Super Bowl 50 co-favorites, per futures odds released by the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook on Tuesday.

The Cardinals (13-2) thumped Green Bay, 38-8, on Sunday, clinching a first-round bye in the process. They wrapped up the NFC West the previous week with a 40-17 blowout of Philadelphia. They’re listed at 3-1 odds by Westgate, the same as New England, which improved from 7-2 odds despite an overtime loss to the Jets.

Arizona opened the season as a 30-1 longshot, behind 10 other teams with better odds and even with three others. Their odds have improved more or less steadily since then, and they are now the favorite in the NFC, ahead of Carolina, which is listed at 9-2 after sustaining its first loss of the season on Sunday.

Arizona, which last lost on Oct. 18 to Pittsburgh, needs a win and a Carolina loss this weekend to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Cardinals franchise, which was founded in Chicago and played in St. Louis before moving to Phoenix in 1988, has never won a Super Bowl and won its only NFC Championship in 2008. They were beaten 27-23 by the Steelers in the Super Bowl that year.

Also on the rise: Kansas City. The Chiefs were at 200-1 in late October before embarking on their own nine-game winning streak, which they’ll carry into Week 17. They’re currently getting 25-1 odds and depending on this weekend’s results, could enter the playoffs as the No. 3, 5 or 6 seed. They need a win and a Denver loss to clinch the AFC West.

Feeling lucky? The Colts are far and away the biggest longshot on the board, currently listed at 9,999-1 by Westgate. They’ll need an awful lot of things to go their way to find their way into the playoffs this weekend.

Complete odds, via Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook:

  • Cardinals 3-1
  • Patriots 3-1
  • Panthers 9-2
  • Seahawks 7-1
  • Broncos 8-1
  • Steelers 12-1
  • Packers 16-1
  • Bengals 20-1
  • Chiefs 20-1
  • Vikings 30-1
  • Jets 40-1
  • Redskins 50-1
  • Texans 50-1
  • Colts 9,999-1

Grading the DFS picks: NFL Week 15 and cumulative results

Since Week 4 of the NFL season we’ve gathered the recommended fantasy plays from various analysts across the industry. Below we present the results for each fantasy tout for both Week 15 and the cumulative totals so far.

Disclaimer: These results are not scientific, and are not intended to be taken as such. Our motive is to bring some small measure of accountability and record-keeping to a subsector of the daily fantasy industry that has boomed in the last two years.

A note on our methodology: Player prices are divided by 1,000 and then compared against the points earned. For example, a player with a salary of $5,000 would be converted to 5. If that player scored 10 points, his fantasy-points-per-dollar rating would be 2.0; if he scored 15 points, his rating would be 3.0, etc.

Each analyst’s picks from last week can be viewed here. For the purpose of our calculations, players who were inactive were removed.

Grading the DFS picks: NFL Week 14 and cumulative results

Since Week 4 of the NFL season we’ve gathered the recommended fantasy plays from various analysts across the industry. Below we present the results for each fantasy tout for both Week 14 and the cumulative totals so far.

Increasing popularity of football powers Nevada sportsbooks to near-record levels

While the Nevada casino industry took a step back in October, sports betting books reported near record totals, according to data released earlier this week by the state’s Gaming Control Board.

Total handle at Nevada sports books was $504.6 million, reportedly making it the second-highest month on record, with sportsbooks winning $33.6 million in October, a 21.8 percent increase from last year.

Full report HERE.

According to Jason Simbal of CG technology, the primary reason for the growth is the ever-increasing popularity of football betting, which accounted for more than $23 million of the sportsbooks’ winning in October. Citing NGCB records, Simbal said year-over-year increases for football betting alone measured $17 million in volume and $6.5 million in revenue.

That continues a trend for the books, which have enjoyed three consecutive record-breaking years and seem destined for a fourth in 2015. Football bettors are winning more often this season, but in November, MGM vice president of race and sports Jay Rood told ESPN that the increase in handle has been substantial enough to offset to decrease in hold.

“Our handle is up, but we just haven’t been able to capitalize on it,” Rood said Sunday afternoon. “Dollar for dollar, we’re just a little behind last year. It seems worse than it’s really been. If you look just at the [hold] percentage you’d think we were getting killed, but really we’re not.”

The October figures from sportsbooks were a welcome bit of good news for Nevada. Overall, casino revenue was down 2.9 percent to $887.6 million in the state and more than 5 percent to $493.6 million on the Las Vegas Strip compared to October 2014.

Unbeaten Patriots keep climbing, now listed as Super Bowl co-favorites

The New England Patriots, unbeaten and outscoring opponents by an average of 16 points per game, are now the co-favorites to win Super Bowl 50 according to futures odds released Tuesday by the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.

New England, which opened the season at 8-1, has improved its odds each week and is now listed at 5-2, along with the Packers.

Five teams remain undefeated entering Week 7, down from six a week ago after the Falcons fell to the Saints on Thursday. That drops Atlanta (5-1) a half game behind the Panthers (5-0) in the NFC South, though the Falcons maintain a slight edge in Westgate’s odds. At 18-1, the Panthers are by far the biggest longshot of the unbeatens.

Cincinnati and Denver are both listed at 10-1 with each entering their bye week. Both the Seahawks (2-4), who just lost to Carolina at home, and two-loss Arizona are both getting 12-1 odds.

Holding steady: Both New York teams. The Jets and Giants have each been listed at 25-1 for three consecutive weeks after getting 100-1 odds early in the season.

The Jets have the poor fortune of playing in the same division as the Patriots, but lead the league in rushing yards per game and points allowed per game. They’ll play at New England on Sunday. Westgate has the Patriots as a 9-point favorite.

The Giants benefit from playing in the NFC East, where no team is over .500 after Philadelphia’s win over the Giants on Monday night.

Trending down: Baltimore. No team’s stock is falling faster than the Ravens’ right now. After opening the season at 16-1 odds, they’re now down to 300-1 and sitting in last place in the AFC North after losing at San Francisco on Sunday. Only the Jaguars, Bears and Lions have given up more points this year.

Packers remain the favorite in Westgate SuperBook’s updated Super Bowl odds

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook’s updated Super Bowl odds are out, and for the fifth consecutive week, the Green Bay Packers remain the favorite.

The Packers improved to 5-0 on Sunday with a 24-10 win over the Rams and are listed at 5-2 odds for the second straight week.

The Patriots (4-0), who topped this week’s “NFL Vegas Rankings” on ESPN, are listed at 7-2 odds and have seen their odds shrink each week of the season so far after opening the season at 8-1.

According to the SuperBook, no team has improved their chances over the first five weeks of the season more than the also unbeaten Cincinnati Bengals, who opened the season at 40-1 and now sit at 10-1. The Bengals, who are 5-0 for the first time since 1988, knocked off Seattle on Sunday, 27-24 in overtime.

Other notable movers:

  • Now at 2-3 and two games behind the Cardinals in the NFC West after Sunday’s loss, the Seahawks are listed at 10-1 odds. Seattle, the defending NFC champs, opened the season as the favorite at 9-2 and had been getting 6-1 odds for the last two weeks.
  • The Panthers remain the least respected among the league’s six undefeated teams. They fell from 20-1 to 25-1 on their bye week, as NFC South rival Atlanta moved to 5-0 with an overtime win over the Redskins.
  • The Lions, who opened the season at 30-1, are now one of the league’s biggest longshots at 500-1. Now at 0-5 after falling to the Cardinals on Sunday, 42-17, the Lions have failed to score 20 points in four straight games. The offensive ineptitude resulted in the second-half benching of quarterback Matthew Stafford on Sunday. Coach Jim Caldwell said after the game that Stafford, who has thrown six touchdowns and eight interceptions in five games, would remain Detroit’s starter.

Grading the DFS picks: NFL Week 5 and cumulative results

Over the last two weeks we’ve gathered the recommended fantasy plays from various analysts across the industry. Below we present the results for each fantasy tout for both Week 5 and the last two weeks combined.

This week, we added Renee Miller, a contributor for ESPN who also produces FanDuel picks for RotoWorld. If there’s another analyst or optimizer you’d like to see tracked, let us know on the forum.

Grading the picks: The DFS plays most recommended by pundits in NFL Week 5

Here’s our weekly look at the most-recommended DFS plays from some of the industry’s most well-known analysts.

First, a quick word on what we’re doing here:

We aim to bring some small measure of accountability and recordkeeping to a subsector of the DFS space that has expanded rapidly. DailyFantasyTalk will not be supplying DFS picks nor will we offer commentary on the picks of others. Each week we will gather the recommendations, post them here and link back to the original source so that interested readers can investigate the reasoning if they’re so inclined.

At the conclusion of an NFL week, we’ll check back with the picks and measure each pundit’s performance. Each pick will be graded on a points-per-dollar basis. You can see how each analyst fared last week here.

Here are this week’s picks. Check back Tuesday to see how each pundit scored.
