Mondogoal becomes first Daily Fantasy site offering 2015 women’s World Cup games

The 2015 women’s World Cup begins on Saturday, and until today, it looked like Daily Fantasy fans would have no place to play.

Thanks to Mondogoal, now they do.

Mondogoal, a soccer-only DFS site that launched in late 2014, announced plans today to offer the women’s Cup, which runs through the first week of July. They’ll offer a variety of games, everything from daily contests to qualifiers for the Summer Showdown—an event that will have a guaranteed $10,000 prize pool.

“The Women’s World Cup is a phenomenal platform for the game, and will draw not just passionate soccer fans but a casual audience interested in both women’s sport and the majesty of a global event,” said Shergul Arshad, CEO of Mondogoal, in a release. “By creating this game for a global audience we will provide a unique engagement platform for all, and we believe it will raise the visibility and the interest not just for soccer but for women’s sports as well.

“In North America, Daily Fantasy Sports has taken off, and interest in soccer is at an all-time high.”

The offering is the first of its kind for women’s sports.

Mondogoal said it will have daily games for all teams and matches.

“Each day of the group stages, fans will pick a team of 11 players from the four games on that day using the Mondgoal salary cap format and then watch the women’s World Cup to see players earn points along for their fantasy teams with every contribution they make during the game,” the release said. “The best compiled scores at the end of the day from a series of statistics will win the top cash prizes.”
