FanDuel revenues slip on first NFL Sunday since NY exit; big tourney shrinking again

For the fourth time this season and the second consecutive week, FanDuel is decreasing the size of its largest NFL tournament. The Sunday Million, which began the year with a $5 million pot and a $1 million grand prize, will be reduced to $2 million and $200,000 for Week 12.

On the first Sunday since it withdrew from New York under legal pressure, FanDuel’s  revenue from NFL contests was down 5.7 percent, according to industry data provider SuperLobby.com.

It’s unclear how much of the dip was directly due to the loss of New York customers, as gross NFL revenues have been sliding for the better part of the last two months. Entry fees received in DraftKings’ guaranteed NFL contests were also down slightly, but the company earned its largest effective margin from GPPs of the season, bringing in $20.36 million, while paying out $17.99 million.

FanDuel was also comfortably in the black. Including cash games, which accounted for approximately one-third of revenues, FanDuel received $23.58 in entry fees, while paying $21.16 in prizes.

FantasyDraft—which also withdrew from New York last week—and FantasyAces saw an uptick in GPP entries. Neither increase was enough to recoup the prizes paid out, however.

Meanwhile, Yahoo enjoyed its most profitable NFL Sunday of the season in terms of GPPs, despite a decrease in overall action. Gross revenue was down five percent, but significantly outpaced guaranteed payouts for just the second time this year.
