There won’t be back-to-back Triple Crown winners. Exaggerator (at 2.5-to-1) beat the favorite, Nyquist, to win the Preakness Stakes last weekend.
Seizing the lead at the top of the stretch, Exaggerator splashed past a tiring Nyquist on a sloppy track and went on to a 3½-length victory over Cherry Wine on a rain-drenched Pimlico Race Course.
“I had a dream trip today,” jockey Kent Desormeaux said. “It was an amazing race, and Exaggerator is an amazing horse.”
It was the first loss in nine races for Nyquist, who finished third in his bid to become the first undefeated horse since Big Brown to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Nyquist had won his first eight races.
Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas has evidently started using his Instagram account to post betting advice. His first pick was a winner (Golden State/Oklahoma City over 220)… but even he suggests it might not be smart to follow his picks.

A man with a gun robbed the sportsbook at Hooters Hotel last night, getting away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police were called to the 115 E. Tropicana Ave. casino just after 6 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.
Though the man was armed, no one was hurt during the robbery. He took off on foot afterward.
A new public policy organization is advocating to take the hypocrisy out of gambling laws.
“Gambling, whether on the lottery, at the casino, or betting online on the big game, is a legitimate means of recreation,” says the Competitive Enterprise Institute study titled Game Changer. “Rather than enforcing subjective morality or trying to protect people from themselves, modern gambling regulation should treat citizens as adults, restore individual choice, protect consumers from crime and preserve the right of states to regulate and profit from gambling activities within their borders.”
A panel at the eSports Summit in London discussed eSports betting integrity, match fixing and doping.
Smith took up this challenge by breaking down cheating into two distinct models. The first was ‘positive fraud’ designed to win a tournament, or a game, through doping, or software cheats. The second was ‘cheating to lose’ when you deliberately throw a game or make adjustments to suit betting lines in your favour.
FanDuel is planning to expand to the United Kingdom in August, but could be held up if the company is unable to secure its license in time.
When asked if FanDuel plans to make an official public statement on its website, the spokesperson replied: “No, not yet as the date is not set in stone and still provisional – we are looking to launch then.”
The spokesperson was not able to give an update on the licence application.
FanDuel’s pool-betting licence application on the UK Gambling Commission’s (UKGC) website reads as “pending”, as it has read since the back-end of last year when the licence application began, and FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles was reported by Bloomberg in November to have said that the product may be subscription-based as opposed to charging entry fees for individual contests.
