According to sources in a Bloomberg article posted yesterday, daily fantasy sports giants DraftKings and FanDuel are in merger talks.

Investors in DraftKings and FanDuel, which are privately held, have been pushing for a tie-up for some time, according to the people, who asked not to be identified as the discussions are private. The companies offer nearly identical products and spend a lot of money competing with each other; they also face the same legal challenges that threaten their business across the U.S.

No final transaction has been agreed, and the deal may still fall apart, the people said.

Last Friday, Colorado and Missouri governors both signed bills that officially legalized daily fantasy sports in their states.

Colorado and Missouri became the fifth and sixth states to pass DFS legislation this year. The governors of both states, as expected, signed bills into law.

Those states joined Indiana, Virginia, Tennessee and Mississippi in passing DFS laws in 2016. Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey also enacted DFS regulations this year.

This week, watch for action in Pennsylvania, and more importantly, New York…

New York could lift their seven-year ban on casinos being built near New York City to dissuade planned casino projects from starting just across the border in New Jersey.

“I’m not interested in creating a border war with New Jersey, but New York has a vested interest in gaming and we’re not going to allow one of our neighbors to take away from that,” New York Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, a Democrat who chairs the Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee, told the website.
