Five New York men were indicted for operating an illegal sports betting ring out of a rundown home in Queens.

Prosecutors said the Bayside betting ring operated out of a home located at 211-11 45th Rd. owned by Greene, who was paid monthly rent and owned two landlines that were used in the bookmaking operation. The gray-shingled structure is largely hidden behind a tall weathered wooden fence up to eight feet tall, with “posted” signs warning trespassers to keep out. Large piles of papers are visible from the first-floor windows.

The British Open started yesterday at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Glasgow. Jason Day was the favorite entering the tournament at 7-to-1, but Phil Michelson, who was 30-to-1, took the lead with an 8-under-par 63.

“The weather definitely could level the playing field, give more a guys a shot, including some long shots,” said Jeff Sherman, assistant manager at the SuperBook and a golf-odds specialist at the Westgate.

Because of the weather forecasts, Sherman bumped up the over/under on the winning score from 273.5 to 274.5.

Golf.com published an article leading into the British Open about a casual sports bettor whose early fandom in David Duval was paid off with “loads of money” and introducing him to the woman who would become his wife.

One cloudy afternoon in 2010, Stuart visited the betting shop to wager on (who else?) Duval when he noticed a new bookie working behind the counter — a perky brunette named Kirsty. Stuart placed his bets and went on his way. On subsequent visits Stuart and Kirsty began chatting, some might say flirting. She remembered him for his bets on Duval, who by this point was far removed from his prime. “He was 250-to-1,” Kirsty says. “But I like people who don’t follow the code. Stuart liked Duval before he won anything.”

Manny Pacquaio ended his retirement and is planning a return to boxing. His trainer Freddie Roach said they’re hoping to get a rematch with Floyd Mayweather.

Roach told USA TODAY Sports Wednesday he’s heard the names of possible opponents, but there is only one guy he wants Pacquiao to fight.

“I want the rematch with (Floyd) Mayweather,” Roach said. “Manny thought he won that fight and he would definitely want that fight, for sure.”

Yesterday, Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot proposed a list of rules to regulate daily fantasy sports in his state.

“Daily online fantasy sports games have established a significant presence in Maryland,” Franchot says. “It is entirely appropriate that we begin making sure the games are fair, anticompetitive abuses are declared out of bounds, and appropriate taxes are paid.”

Tom Brady’s four-game Deflategate suspension wasn’t lifted and Las Vegas sportsbooks didn’t make any changes .

“We didn’t adjust anything today,” Jason Simbal, vice president of CG Technology sports books, said.

“We put up the season win (total) expecting Brady to be out four games,” Sherman said. “If he had been reinstated, then we would have to make changes.”
