Bounced check from Caesars

Hi Guys,
It’s been a long time! Hope everyone is crushing! I need some sharp advice. Here is the story:

I was at Rio for the world series of poker, cashed in a turny for ~15k took a check from the wsop cage (like I’ve done a # of times in the past) booked a flight and went home. Deposited a check the next day in New York. I receive a letter two weeks later from my bank telling me the check from Caesars bounced and for me to contact the maker of the check. I am in complete shock, I instantly call Rio get transferred a thousand times, I finally get someone from the cage. They ask me a thousand times if I am around or coming back to Rio. I tell them a thousand times I live in New York and don’t know if I am coming back. Finally, a supervisor picks up the phone, apologizes numerous times, promises to re-issue the check and mail it to me. I ask for approximate delivery date, she tells me she doesn’t control the mail room! We finally agree that they will fedex me the check and email me the tracking # (this is Friday 4PM EST), I receive the email on Sunday night with a fedex tracking # it was mailed on Friday. These morons don’t overnight it or do 2/3 day mail, regular fuckin ground shipping! I decide to tweet at them and write a complaint letter, honestly, in hopes that they would offer to comp me something. I write them a very long nice letter; they reply with apologies no offers of anything. The check should have been delivered by midday Wednesday (6/27), now it tells me Thursday afternoon. Your thoughts? Can I file a complaint with the gaming commission? Do I have any recourse? Am I aggravated for no reason? And just pissed for not getting anything out of them!
(apologies for such a long, run-on post)

Why do you want recourse? They presumably made an honest mistake and got a new check sent out.

You really want to involve the gaming commission with something like that?

It's not a claim so Gaming isn't going to do anything you were paid it was mistake and believe me the person who made the mistake will pay. All casinos are very strict with their cage personnel. You got your money did you think a property like Caesars would stiff you. If something like that happens again always ask for the Manager and tell the clerk on the phone you received a check that bounced. I asked for approximate delivery date, she tells me she doesn’t control the mail room! I also believe that a supervisor would say something like that but a manager would treat everything differently.

Maybe my thought process is off but Caesars is the absolute worse if this was an accounting error they should reach out to me before the check bounces from the bank. Why are they asking me 5 times if I am coming back? I literally felt like they were trying to scam me. How could they not overnight the check or do express delivery? By the way I still haven’t received it. They clearly fucked up, offer me something, make me want to come back to their property. If it wasn’t for the WSOP I would never step foot at any of their venues again. By the way, they have the highest rake in America, $12 for half hour. In tourney fees and cash games I paid something like 2k in rake over 5 days.

    Eug,
I hear and understand your anger, but this ain't the good ole days. You as an individual are not a priority. Mistakes happen and will be rectified while the corporation operates with no heartbeat.

This is Corp America nobody gives a fuck and do you really think they care if you come back dropping 2k in 5 days rake. I've been saying this for years and nobody believes me I was pretty high up on the food chain in the table game dept and when I was on the floor I was the guy in all Dept's if needed. They all had there own Managers but if the guest wanted to speak to the casino manager (I worked Swing Shift ) and he wasn't there I got called so trust me when I tell you these days nobody cares. Do you have a host or do just come down once a year to play poker. If you have a host and your a player go see your host nobody else is going to do anything unless maybe two to the buffet. This is Las Vegas you have this mistaken with a gambling town that appreciates your business.

I retired at 62 I couldn't take it anymore it went from gambling and taking care of your customers to a Gaming town and and how can we fuck them. If you have a big line and a good host he'll fix it for you. that's who you contact but if you think the cage is going to take care of you I think your crazy but who knows maybe you'll get a call from the poker boss and he'll do something for you. Poker Players and Don't Pass players not really held in high regard. Just an opinion.

It wasn't always that way pertaining to DNP players. When AC was rolling, and some joints here, I pretty much had Carte Blanche as a black and purple wrong bettor. Guys like yourself caught on quickly. The risk per roll was hidden. In your houses, I hadda bet Right to eat good and lose $$.

It's not the % you still have to get pass the come out roll which is 2/1 against to lay odds which at that point you become the favorite but getting by the 7/11 is tough not to mention the 12. I played the don't myself many years in street games had my own street game at one time even money 6/8 how do you like that lol.

Anyway it's the perception that all don't players and poker Players are negative people and casino workers really didn't want to deal with them. Don't ask me why but they were despised. Maybe because they weren't your best tokers. Don't players gave you shit and high limit poker players dragging in huge money pots back in the day in the side games with Texas dolly and boys at the shoe during WS time gave dealers crap it cut into there PC lol.

Me I was Crap dealer I didn't give a fuck what you bet I just tried to make as much as I could. I dealt single deck 21 also back in the day when you got 3/2 for BJ and they stood on soft 17. Playing BJ today with all the funny side bets and everyone paranoid you're an AP it's not worth it. hey love talking to Ronnie and there's a lot of new guys we should one day get back into storytelling like we used to. We had some laughs.

Thanks guys, I was hoping to hear from the two of you. I don’t have a host and very rarely play the pits. Poker players are awful tippers. I think the ecosystem has changed over the last 10 years in-regards to what poker can generate for the casinos. Rio is just the worst, the way the floor talks to the players you’d think they are doing us a favor. Whatever, hoping to see my check tomorrow and off to vegas for the main next week.

Good Luck. It's sad the way they treat most people. if It was anything within reason the customer always got the first one and if mistakes were made there was always a dinner even if limited on how much it was a nice dinner or an extra night or adding an extra night your next trip. The avg joe doesn't have much of a chance anymore. There's alway gaming but that's for claims and most people think they're on the casinos side which really isn't true and if the claim is legit you'll get paid regardless of who you are. Ronnie would say Paulie give me ticket to eat and I would say are you going to play this time and he say yea don't worry lol

One thing that no one mentions is passing an insufficient funds check is against the law in most states. I can’t speak for Nevada as I practice in a different state. Now I am not stupid enough to think that the prosecuting attorney will actually file charges against Ceasar’s but you do have the written law on your side.

This is also a civil suit as their is not defense to issuing check that bounces.

This does not made it any easier for you as all you want is the f’in money.

You make valid points counselor, but your fees might exceed the settlement.

if you still have not been paid, I would call them and tell them look I need an overnight check or I need contact info for a regulatory authority to file a complaint. Sure maybe you dont have a case but be assured they dont want to deal with that and will do what they can to avoid the time and cost associated with that. I would not ask a cage boss for this, I would try to get as high up the chain as possible, some of these former casino people here can tell you who is high enough that actually would care. If they are paying you and you know it just wait get the check and remember the deal before you give them anymore juice on anything including rakes! Suing them would be a huge waste of time and 100% not necessary.

I never worked in the casino business but in real estate and will settlement, regulatory agencies SUCK and companies and people dont want to deal with them at pretty much any cost.

    What's the final score here?

Write a letter to the Corp Offices and tell your story about how long it took and how you had to go pick it up. It can't hurt letting them know you wasn't treated in the manner your accustomed to as a guest of any hotel you stay when you come to Las Vegas. 7 days Fedex that's just wrong.
