Sunday Ticket Discounts

It is that time and I wondered if anyone has called and found out what they are offering this year? I know this will be my 19th year and it has gotten tougher to get much from Directv. Generally there are some great stories from past experiences, and it all has depended on which rep answers our calls to what is given.

I would get things people couldn't believe and like you have been with them a very long time. But the last time I tried for something for baseball I received a taste on the package and a little something extra but I think those days are passing us by since the sell out to AT&T. The retention dept told me that at that time AT&T wasn't in yet but buying company's which I know a little something about takes time and now this morning I received an email telling me about the buy out and you'll get something but I wouldn't expect much.

Not because of this but I've been thinking of Century links Bundle Package (Fire Optics has hit my hood) for some time to check out the prices because DirectV is getting very expensive and I'm tried of spending $2500/$3000 a year for TV and when flipping throught channels I watch maybe 20 channels at most and that's inclucding HBO and Showtime.

PS: I'm passing on the NFL package this year they show plently of football included in my overall package and that's why I stopped the college football years ago because I get plenty of great games.

I called just to see what promotions they're offering and I got $21 off my bill. $7, HBO, Showtime and Max to be taken off the premium bill till Jan so it's for 5 months or possibly 6 months if it includes Jan. The Football package is $252 this year with a discount of $5 a month or $9 a month which really isn't bad but unless your a Fan of your Favorite team :) they show plenty of football that I get with the premium package.

Some will do better then others so good luck. I also cancelled my auto renewal for the NBA season and also mention other company's are starting to catch up with Directv and I really don't think she gives a shit. Really don't think so But I do see a lot of trucks in my hood changing to Century Link-Prism TV

When I said $5 or $9 what I meant was the price of the NFL package $252 isn't bad. The days of 1/2 price and Free are gone. I remember a few years back not long ago I got in two years the NFL package twice for free and the NBA package once for free. "Those were the days my friend we thought they never end"

Received that email OT..I think we ended up getting the same deal for the MLB package. The give a shit factor seems to be less and less these days at DTV. If it were not for wanting to watch every Chiefs game I would not be paying for the ticket. I will call a few times over the next month and share my results.

Made my annual call to DirecTV and asked to speak to a customer retention specialist. I made no threats to leave but just asked for some help on my bill as a long time customer (20 yrs +). While the young man told me he couldn't give me anything off of my "Sun NFL Ticket Max" after looking at some things he gave me what he referred to as a "loyalty" discount of $28 per month for the next year, which basically saves me about the same as the cost of the NFL programming I subscribe to.

I have no idea what just happened? I called, said 'cancel service' to automated prompt. Guy picks up the phone, I said I either need new equipment or cancel my service, in a very nice way. I was also going to cancel the NFL ticket. I think I watch the Redzone channel more than anything now. I didn't even get to say 'cancel the Ticket.' He says, 'you're eligible for free Sunday Ticket Max, $30 off your bill, free movie channels for 3 months, and new equipment.' Wtf!!?? I just said, "ok!" He sets all that up then says his system locked up for the new equipment and that he has to transfer me. Jasmine answers the phone, sets up the new equipment and gives me $25 off for having had an issue. Then proceeds to give me $4 off per month for the next year. Damn, I was just going to cancel football and they gave me the world! I did not ask for anything. And, I don't think I've paid full price for The Ticket once in my 5 years? Got lucky today, I guess?

My loyalty discounts add up to $43 a month with about 6 months left and the reason I called was my pet peeve is new customers are getting the premium package for 89.99 and I pay 129.99 but mine includes all the fox sports channels and that's one of the reasons I don't need the CFB package I get just about every game I want. Just about. Anyway the girl added a few dollars more but told me just for the 6 months matching the other discounts which was fine. I told I won't be buying the NFL package really not interested in the NFL like I use to be. Between the 3 games on Sunday the Thursday game and the Monday it's plenty of NFL for me but I did thank her for the small added discount and told her I will be calling for the NBA.

Yea Bucky that was like last year they couldn't do anything with the NBA package but he gave me $15 off the bill for 15 months and after you added it up I got the NBA package for free. They seem to move the money around and show it else where then on the sports package. There still the best around as far as I'm concerned. Will see with the AT&T taking over. I asked her how things were going and of course the conversation being recorded she not stupid but reading between the line it seems there will be possibly some small changes to future discount. But I'm also a 20+ year customer and not going anywhere.

Weird business model. Get fed up, threaten us or heck, just call us, and we'll reduce the price to where it should have been in the first place! It's good to hear you're able to get these discounts with a phone call each year, but I guess they're banking on the countless number of other subscribers who don't call and continue to pay at full price.

exactly what i told them...i said all i have to do is cancel and put new account in my girls name so its considered new and then i get the discounts? seems totally backwards... then the woman said not to go through that because ill give it to u for free!!!!!! your right , shouldn't have to call and complain but you know what they say !!

I made the yearly call this afternoon. I was a little worried about how it would go with the AT&T changes, but it went as well as ever. Gave the same explanation as I do every year...getting too expensive, biggest reason I'm with DTV is due to the Sunday Ticket but it's hit the point where I can't afford it, so no reason to stay with them, wife is pressuring me to cut cable costs and I'm getting a great offer from Comcast, so please cancel my service. I think I've used the same rundown for the past 7-8 years, and it works like a charm every time.

They gave me the Sunday Ticket for free for this season. It's not the Max version of it, and if i want to upgrade to Max, I have to pay the difference, but I don't really need anything that Max offers so I'm fine (I like having the Red Zone sometimes during the 1:00 games, but I've got 4 TVs going and usually just keep 3 of them on one game and create my own Red Zone channel by flipping between the other games on my 4th TV). They also gave me $30 in bill credits for each month for the next 12 months. And this came with a 1 year agreement to stay with DTV, so I'm all set until I make the call again next year.

So, for taking about 15 minutes to make the phone call and threaten to leave them, I got about $610 in savings (250 for the ticket + 360 for the bill credits).

Tommy, thanks for this update. Although, I'd called a short time ago (see earlier post in this thread) I called again today, and at the suggestion of a friend, asked for the "loyalty" dept, not the customer retention dept. I don't know if there's actually any difference between the two, but I was able to get an additional $113 off per month for the next 4 months and another $65 per month for the next 8 months after that. These were the total monthly discounts for my NFL Sun Ticket Max (Sun ticket was for free but I pay for the RedZone upgrade), my premium package, sports pack, and some other HD stuff. A total savings of around $900. I've been a DirecTV customer for 20+ years, and while I dislike the fact that I should even have to call each year to optimize my account value, it's certainly worth the time/effort to put in a call.

called a couple of weeks ago just wanted to see what I could get promotion wise and took what little they gave. Well I call early this afternoon and spend an hour and half talking to a nice lady no threats never done that and never will. I got over 20 years in don't need to use threats those who do if it works that's your thing. This is what I got the NFL package (So my wife can watch the Lions I could care less) and the NBA package for a total of $255 and received $350 in discounts I made $95 on the deal. True some of the discounts are over 12 months but that's find with me. $110 up front and $20 a month over 12 months on top of my other discounts. Living Large in Disney land.

I also received information that At&T as you know bought them but they will remain separate so things at directv should stay the same for now. I went through that when MGM bought out Wynn in 2001 if I remember correctly and nothing changed for a few years and then little by little the guys at the top were replaced (Most anyway) with MGM people. So were good with directv for a while.

edit: Yes the NFL is the max version

Just went with Dish and canceled Direct TV, upon the cancellation call, the second offer from Direct was 1/2 of what I was paying for 12 months.
What I have not seem discussed is the Dish HD feed is so much better than Direct TV, it was like getting a new 4k TV, at least in middle US.
