Question on record keeping / money mgmt

Regarding record keeping standards on here and also money mgmt, wouldn't unweighting your picks mean that all picks should be judged as risking the same?

+odds should be to risk 1 unit.
- odds should be to risk 1 unit, not to win 1 unit.

This would truly by unweighting your picks.

The amount risked in a given wager is what is important in keeping a flat bet.

Additionally, Same side/total wagers for a period or half and game should not be treated as 2 separate wagers for record keeping or money mgmt purposes, correct?

They are going to tell you the forum rules are risk 1 to win 1.xx on dogs and risk 1.xx to win 1 on favorites.

However, if you're looking for proper bankroll management, you should be betting more on favorites than on dogs and everything should be to win 1 unit. Risk 1.xx on favorites and .xx on dogs. Your method is risking too much on dogs and not enough on favorites.

"H" is this due to higher variance on moneyline dogs ?

Thought I wrote a response here but guess it didn't get posted. What Dr H says is what you want as a kelly bettor.

So if you want to compare records you really should do the same. Look at all bets to win the same amount (assuming equal edge). Risking the same amount is even worse than the industry standard risk 1 dogs, to win 1 favorite.

That would be a "weighted" system though, essentially risking more as the market is telling you your probability to win is higher and risking less when the market says your probability to win is lower. I'm curious if most people on this forum use that style of money management.

As far as the site guidelines go, the method we require (for better or worse) is pretty much just a reflection of the industry standard and simplicity that most posters are used to. Also, when the guidelines say "unweighted", they're more concerned with all plays being 1u as opposed to some being 1u and others being 5u or 10u (or all plays being 5u which is of course the same thing as all being 1u, but we want everyone's record to be comparable, hence the guidelines).

That said, by all means, continue the higher-level (and more important) discussion of optimal betting strategy.
