Daily fantasy sports could be coming to Nevada casinos following approval from the Nevada Gaming board.

Gaming regulators on Wednesday gave initial approval to Las Vegas race and sports book pioneer Vic Salerno for a proposal that would allow bettors to make fantasy sports wagers using a platform similar to pari-mutuel wagering.

The Gaming Control Board voted unanimously to recommend to the Gaming Commission the licensing of Salerno and his company, US Fantasy, for an off-track, pari-mutuel sports system operator’s license.

Dane Maralason, who writes for Gaming & Leisure magazine, told KNPR’s State of Nevada that sports betting entities could enlarge Nevada’s $4 billion sports betting industry to $400 billion in 5-7 years.

So far, the payout has been remarkable.

“All the entities now are producing gains of 1 percent a week or more.” Maralason said.

Another sports bettor with ties to golf Phil Mickelson was recently arrested.

Gregory Silveira, an avid golfer who authorities said had ties to offshore gambling, pleaded guilty last year to three counts of laundering funds from an unnamed “gambling client” of his between February 2010 and February 2013. Outside the Lines, citing sources, identified Mickelson as the client.

Preakness winner Exaggerator is the early favorite to win this weekend’s Belmont Stakes. Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist isn’t running in the race following a recent fever that sidelined him.

Being outside should not be an obstacle for Exaggerator, one of several 3-year-olds in the field who like to run well off the lead.

“I can’t see any horse that would cross over on him,” Kent Desormeaux said. “I’d like to establish position preferably without him getting a grain of sand in his face.”

An article published in The State explores the 6.5-point move on South Point’s early line for the South Carolina-Vanderbilt game.

“I talked to the bookmaker out there, and he said basically: ‘I just think I blew the line’,” said sports gaming writer David Purdum of ESPN Chalk. “People think Vanderbilt is going to be improved. South Carolina, nobody knows what’s going to happen. He said, ‘I just blew it.’ It’s not that unusual early in the season to have a big line move. I think right now it’s closer to the right number.”

A Nevada sportsbook manager said Stephen Curry isn’t looking like himself and he thinks the Cavaliers will even the series at 2-2 tonight.

“It was such a good spot,” Sherman said. “You know what you’re getting out of that emotional spot. That must-win game is out of the way, but I’m going to take the same assessments into the next game. Cleveland is so much better at home, and the Warriors have struggled on the road. I think the Cavs will win the next game.”
