The Indianapolis Colts began the season as one of the favorites to bring home the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl 50. Three weeks later they’re quickly turning into a longshot.
The Colts notched their first win of the season on Sunday, rallying to defeat Tennessee 35-33. But oddsmakers were less than impressed (the ongoing spat between coach Chuck Pagano and GM Ryan Grigson likely isn’t helping either), dropping Indianapolis from 16-1 to 20-1 when the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook released updated Super Bowl futures on Monday.
The Colts opened the season with 8-1 odds, behind only Seattle and Green Bay. Now, heading into Monday night’s Packers-Chiefs game, seven teams have better odds and Indianapolis is on equal footing with Carolina, which opened the season at 60-1.
Other notable movement:
- The Steelers slid to 30-1 after Ben Roethlisberger’s knee injury. They were previously 20-1. Initial reports said the starting quarterback is expected to be out 4-6 weeks, but Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said Monday there was no timetable for his return.
- The Saints have gone from 30-1 to 200-1 in the wake of three straight losses and Drew Brees’ shoulder injury.
- The winless Bears are also without their starting quarterback and have spiraled to the longest odds (1,000-1) in the league. Jay Cutler is expected to be out 2-5 weeks; top receiver Alshon Jeffery could return for next weekend’s game against the Raiders.
- The Cardinals, who began the season at 30-1, are now at 10-1 after Sunday’s 47-7 win over San Francisco lifted them to 3-0.
- The Bengals are also climbing quickly, now at 14-1 after winning as a 2.5-point underdog at Baltimore.
